Reunion of Chamblee Family Held Here on Sunday, July 2 The children, grandchildren, and great grandchild of the late Ella R. and William H. Chamblee held a family reunion at the family home last Sunday. Music, songs, and games were enjoyed during the day. One of the most out standing events of the afternoon was the singing of songs by the six brothers who had sung in the past, accompanied by their mo ther at the piano. Dinner was served buffet style or. the long family dining room table. Chairs and small tables w’ere arranged outside under the trees, where the barbecue fried chicken, potato salad, sandwiches, deviled eggs, pickles, homemade rake, iced tea. and bottled drinks were enjoyed. Egg production in 1950 is likely to exceed the record of 1944 while the smaller laying flock anticipat ed for 1951 will not reduce output of eggs enough to affect civilian consumption adversely outside. Not only good looks but a more pliable opening is achiev ed by hand stitching zippers. That is why the finest gowns produced in Paris and New York custom houses are made with zippers sewn in by hand, specialists say. Newer than the small zippers in troduced fairly recently are even thinner zippers. The new small zippers are being used for a really delicate effect, especially in mak ing dainty summer sheers. Men Commended At Fort Jackson Fort JACKSON—Men of Bat tery A, 113 Field Artillery Battal ion, were preparing for any eventuality as first week training for the 30th Infantry Division end ed. The “(*)ld Hickory” Division is formed of National Guard units from North Carolina and Tennes see. Capt. Barrie S. Davis, command ing offidhr of Battery A. expressed his satisfaction with the training carried out by his unit. Men C ited Commended for the interest they have displayed in their work are Pvt. Harold C. Moss of Route 4, driver; Pfc. George R. Massey, Jr., cook; and Pvt. Ellis P Combs of Route 4. cannoneer. The first four days of this week are being devoted to sectional training, with every man in the battery participating. Special em phasis is being placed on the two firing sections, under Sgt. Frank Massey and Cpl. Rudolph Liles. Lt. Henry Mangum of Hender son has been assigned as executive officer for Battery A. in the ab sence of Lt. Philip Pearce, who was unable to attend camp. RECREATION PROGRAM Much Progress Noted By Lee Rhode<; The summer recreation program is still progressing very rapidly. More activities have been added and a greater number of people are taking part in the different ac tivities. Plans are being made to add more facilities and the recrea tional leaders are hoping that even more people will come and use these added facilities. Swimming has been added to the list of activities carried out through the program. Each Tues day and Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock the group will assemble at the playground and will proceed from there to Tippett’s. Mr. Ap- Theo. Davis Sons, Publishers Tippett, Record, Red Cross to Hold Swimming Classes Zebulon folks who want to lear* to swim will have an opportunity to participate in a regular Aemri can Red Cross water safety pro gram at a local pool, according t.« Louis Gray and Bob Emanuel, Wake County ARC water safety workers, who have arranged through Joe Tippett and the Zebulon Record to offer such a course this summer. Mr. Tippett has offered the Red Cross use of his pool in the morn ings for beginners’ instructions, and in addition offered the use of his lake for instruction of advanc ed swimmers. “I am very much interested m this program,” he declared, “and will let the children and other non-swimmers use my pool with out charge during the Red Cross instruction hours.” Completed This Week Mr. Gray, Wake County Water Safety Chairman, said that the program should be worked out during this week as far as dates and hours are concerned. “We are happy to have this site, so convenient to the people of Zeb ulon and the surrounding com munity, made available to us,” he declared. “This will mean that many children and adults, who could not make the long trip to other pools where Red Cross training is given, may now learn to swim.” Lee Rhodes, Zebulon recreation director, and Herbert Appenzeller, assistant director, promised their cooperation in furthering the wat er safety program. The two rec reation workers are already car rying children to Tippett’s pool two afternoon each week Transportation Provided Last year the courses were held at Lake Mirl, and the Record pro vided transportation for 14 child ren taking the water training This year the newspaper will again provide transportation for all children who have no other means to get from Zebulon to the pool on Highway 64. Registration announcements will be made in next Friday’s issue of the Record. penzeller and Mr. Rhodes will con stantly be on guard against any accidents. Classes for those who are not experienced swimmers will be held on each of these two swimming days. Teen Night Plans A “Teen Night” is being planned for each Friday night. The first night will be July 14th. The pro gram will consist of folk dances, square dances, and fun for all The time and other arrangements will be announced later.
