Davis Sons, Publishers TUESDAY Victory Is in Prospect Is Claim of Supporters Os $50,000 Bond Issue Supporters of the proposed $50,- 000 bond issue to raise funds to construct a municipal building for the Town of Zebulon threw their campaign into high gear this week, predicting that the ordinance will pass easily in the voting Tues day, January 16. The campaign to win approval was carried out by letters, through the newspaper, and by personal contact. The new building, if approved, will provide facilities for town offices, jail, public toilets, fire sta tion, courtroom, and additional of fices for use by the county health department and driver’s license ex aminer. Jail Is Condemned At the preset time the Zebulon jail has been condemned, the fire house is in a disreputable state of disrepair, public toilets are non existent, and the court room and town offices are inadequate. Members of the Board of Com missioners have pointed out that if the bond issue does not pass Tuesday, a new jail and fire sta tion must be constructed here any way at an estimated cost of $25,000. This sum will have to be paid with an extra tax levy in one year. No Raise in Tax Rate In answer to questions on a pos sible increase in the tax rate, the commissioners, joined by Mayor R. H. Bridgers, prepared a letter to the citizens of Zebulon pledging that no increase will be made in the town tax rate to pay off the bonds. Town manager, Willie B. Hop kins, answering requests for changes to be made in the propos ed plans, said that the floor plans being shown to voters are not fi nal, and changes may be incor porated before the final prints are drawn to be submitted for con struction bids. Among the changes that have been shade to him to (Continued on Page 2) Panel Discussion to Be Held Monday Night At P-TA Meeting The January meeting of the Wakelon Parent-Teacher Associa tion will be held Monday night, January 15, in the Wakelon audi torium, when a panel discussion will be conducted with Fred Smith, assistant superintendent of Wake County School, serving as chairman. Subject of the discus sion will be: “What Can Our Schools Do to Help Prepare Stu dents to Earn a Living?” Among the panelists will be Miss Ruby Dawson, J. Raleigh Alford, Wallace Temple, Cloid Wade, Carl ton Mitchell, and Ralph Talton. —---- —-1 j WOMAN'S CLUB MEETING ii .i Mrs. W. R.
