Mayor Bridgers Issues
Campaign Statement
To all my friends in Zebulon:
In announcing my candidacy for
reelection to the office of Mayor
' of The Town of Zebulon, I do not
do so for the glory of the office
or for personal financial gain, al
though it is an honor which I ap
preciate the privilege of holding.
My interest in the office of Mayor
is strictly my love for our town
and my sincere desire to serve it to
the best of my ability.
I am not laying down any plat
form or making any promises that
I do not think can be carried out.
I am running on my past record, of
which 1 am very proud. I have had
excellent cooperation from the oth
er officials of the town, and you
must agree that we have made def
inite progress. I promised you be
fore that I would do all that I
could in every way for the ad
vancement of Zebulon. This I have
done, keeping in mind at all times
the financial condition of the town,
i We have spent approximately $75,-
000.00 for permanent improve
ments during the past four years,
keeping well abreast with the times
and the growth of our town.
To mention a few of the things
we have done, I would top the
list with our present water system,
! which 1 think you will agree is a
bove criticism. The cost of opera
tion is not more than half the cost
of the old system, and you have
not had a drink of muddy water in
1 more than three years. We have

made many water and sewer-line
j extensions to keep pace with the
fine growth that we have enjoyed;
we have paved about four miles
of streets, with good hopes of
paving all our other dirt streets in
the near future, and we still have
j in our treasury as much money as
! we had four years ago.
i In addition, the contract has been
let for a much-needed Municipal
Building that will house all town
offices, jail, court room and fire
, station under one roof. That is
i something for which I have hoped
and worked for a long time. We,
of course, had to float a bond issue
for this building, but it will be paid
for without any increase in our
tax rate. It is my opinion that our
| tax rate can be reduced somewhat
j in the near future in view of the
! increase n our revenue. Our wa
ter revenue is now up about 25 per
cent more than it was four years
ago, and our real estate valua
tion has also been increasing very j
rapidly.
Our cemetery is still not kept as j
well as we would like to have it, j
but it is in much better condition
than it has been in the past and
we are making plans now to im
prove on it even more.
And let us not forget our Fire

Department. Our new fire truck
is quite an asset, and has done
some wonderful work in extin
guishing several bad fires.
I am proud of everything we
have, and especially of our very
efficient Police Department. These
men deserve a great deal of praise
for their unceasing work and co
operation.
