One of the veterans making a
pitch for a State handout to vet
erans was a student at Shaw Uni
versity, but a native of Jones
county. In the middle of his speech
to the Senate Propositions and
Grievances Committee, he spoke
very effusively to Senator John
Larkins, Jr., of Jones.
Larkins smilingly explained la
ter that the boy was a close rela
tive of the Progressive Party can
didate who ran against him in
1948 and gathered a total of four
votes.
