Farm Facts Plant scientists are trying to breed into the lima bean the qual ity of resistance to downy mildew disease, a fungus infection that cuts yields. For this work they have assembled 113 foreign and domestic strains and varieties of lima beans. A large number of hornworms have appeared in tobacco fields in Sampson county, according to County Agent E. J. Morgan. New president of the North Car olina Federation of Home Demon stration Clubs is Mrs. H. M. John son, Route 5, Kinston, and the new president of the North Carolina Farmers Convention is E. C. Ta tum of Cooleemee. Both were elected during the 1951 Farm and Home Week held at State College. Pearce News (Too Late for Last Week) Mr. and Mrs. Ben Perry visited Mrs. Perry’s parents, the Ralph Lewises of Zebulon Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ainsworth Priv ette visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tippette of near Zebulon Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. David Stephenson of Raleigh spent the weekend with her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Jack El lington. Miss Bobby Glynn Baker of Raleigh was home over the week end. Mrs. Ervin Ray visited her sis ter, Mrs. Billy Pearce of Zebulon who is sick, last Sunday. Mr. Forrest Pearce of Raleigh visited his parents, the A. N. Pearces last Tuesday. Mrs. R. M. Johnson and Mrs. R. H. Johnson visited in Raleigh last Friday. Mrs. R. H. Johnson went to see her doctor. Mrs. J. W. Johnson, Mrs. “Let” Johnson and daughter, Donna Fay, visited their mother, grandmother, and gr6at-grandm other, Mrs. Katy Catlette of Wakefield Sunday evening. Hood is up and about again, but Mrs. Hood was sick over the weekend. Hope they will be completely well very soon. Mr. and Mrs. William (Wimpy) Mitchell spent their second honey moon in Charleston, West Virginia last week. They enjoyed it very much. Mr. and Mrs. Vance Lee Denton and children visited in the home of Mrs. Neta Denton last Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Leffingwell and kids, Bertie Sue and Johnny took Phil and Patricia Jones of Indianhead, Md., home Saturday. They spent Saturday night with Mrs. William Jones and returned home in Baltimore, Md., Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Flood ac companied his brother, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Flood of Bunn, to Richmond, Virginia, where Donald will undergo an operation. He will remain in the hospital for three months. Mr. and Mrs. T. Y. Puryear and Carl Miss Kay Pate, Mr. and Mrs. Julian Mitchell and kids, and Mr. and Walter Todd visited with Mr. and Mrs. Welon Hood the last few days. Mrs. Todd is staying with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Cardie Ferrell and children spent a few days with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ster ling Mitchell, and Mrs. Lillie Fer rell of Pearces.
