MRS. VERA RHODES
Wakefield Highlights
The weather so rough Sun
day, we didn’t have such a good
crowd, but we always have a good
lesson just the same.
A student from Wake Forest, Mr.
Pernnell, preached for us. We en
joyed his message very much. His
wife came with him.
Our pastor is enjoying his vaca
tion in the Florida sunshine, he
says.
Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Hendricks
and Johnnie and Mr. and Mrs. R.
F. Eddins and Mrs. Joe Alford are
just back from an extended trip to
Florida. I just wonder how much
fishing Robert did while there, I
will find out when I see him.
Mrs. W. A. Adcock, Mrs. Fred
Hood, Mrs. E. W. Hood and Mrs.
Vera Rhodes went to Durham Mon
day to see W. M. Hood and family,
also others. Mr. Hood is about the
same. His address is W. M. Hood,
% A. M. Hood, 609 Park Avenue,
Durham, N. C.
If anyone of you want to send
him a card or go see him he is so
glad to see everyone that comes
from down here. For after all this
is home to him, even if he does
have to stay up there where he
can be cared for. They hope to
come home in warm weather, he is
looking forward to it anyway.
At this time I have just had
two phone calls telling me our be
loved Mr. Carl Honeycutt passed
away last night at 7 o’clock. Our
sympathy goes out to the loved
ones.
We also sympathize with Mr.
Herbert Winstead in the death
of his brother, George Winstead
of Wilson.
We also sympathize with Mrs.
Archie Puryear and her family in
the death of her husband who was
killed Friday night in Lillington in
a wreck with two others killed.
We just need to be a little more
careful and maybe we would not
have so many accidents. You can
drive as carefully as you know
how and then someone will go by
you flying a little too low and al
most blow you off the road or just
miss you by a hair and make you
nervous and jittery. I am glad I am
not easy *o scare. The closer place
I get in the steadier my nerves
are. But do be careful and let’s
live as long as the good Lord will
let us and die a natural death.
Mr. Donnie Gay has been in Rex
Hospital several days. Went home
to Wilson Monday, he is improving.
Tdr. Billy Sherron has mumps,
hope he is better now. Mrs Sher
ron is back home from Rex. Mrs.
Sterling Mitchell is better at Mary
Elizabeth Hospital. Kay Liles has
been sick all week, also Sue Med
lin. Mr. Walter Medlin is out
again, we are glad to say.
Mrs. Kermit Combs and children
have been sick this week. If she
is able she will speak to the Mo

The Home Demonstration Club
met with Mrs. Helen Jones Wed
nesday afternoon with Mrs. Vera
Rhodes as joint hostess. There
were 11 members present with five
visitors. Mrs. Young of Raleigh
gave a lecture on Girl Scouting and
slides to just let us know a little
about what we were sponsoring
when we agreed to sponsor the
Girl Scout Troops in Wakefield.
Mrs. Mary Green gave a demon
stration on “Talored Tips” in
sewing. Mrs. Vera Rhodes and
Mrs. Earl Averette gave informa
tion on making nylon flowers. The
Club is making them for sale to
cover the Log Club House in Wake
field. Anyone who wants a flower
contact me. We have all colors
in the rainbow. We specialize in
making them for the Eastern Star
Chapters in the Star Point colors.
Will be glad to take ordeis for
any chapter. After we made a
flower for those present to see,
the hostesses served George Wash
ington cherry pie, ritz crackers
with pickle and coffee. We were
glad to have the visitors, come
again. We will meet again in
March at the Club house on the 4th
Wednesday afternoon at 2:30. All
the ladies of the community are
invited to come, it’s your club, too.

program. I am sorry I missed it.
We appreciate her taking part in
it. It is nice to work together.
If we only had time to slow down
and take it easy long enough to
study to show ourselves approved
unto God a workman that need

viding the word of truth. We need

feet and was inspired by his teach
ing and company, while Martha
hustled and bustled around, busy
about entertaining and serving
and making h big show. Instead of
choosing the most important part
as Mary did. Let us give that a
little thought, will you. I, myself
am guilty of being Martha, and a
lot of others are also. But don’t
misunderstand me, she was a good
gal, but just overlooked the most
important part of Jesus’ visit with
them. He would visit with us any
old time if we will only let him,
(stop) and take time to be holy
and he will be there in your midst
to lead and guide and direct your
path.
We are sorry Joe Pippin is sick.
Mrs. Kermit Combs and Peter

back in a pretty snow. I also drove
back in it from Durham Tuesday.
