Vacation Bible School com
mencement exercises were Sunday
night beginning at 8 o’clock. Each
department gave a short program
and show its projects. The record
lor the week was: average atten
dance, 115; largest attendance was
on Thursday night, 132; total en
rollment, 136; offering, $37.83.
Much was accomplished and many
thanks to all who helped to make
it such a success. It was a won
derful experience for me as prin
cipal.
Prayer meeting was Tuesday
night of this week at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Harris.
Pastor S. G. Stevens requested
prayer for rain and if the rains
did come prayer of thanks would
still be offered.
All weekly services will go back
to their regular schedule this week.
Fellowship meeting is Thursday
night.
Remember the W. M. U. meeting
Wednesday night of next week at
8:00 in the assembly room at the
church.
Mrs. Katy Alle is still very sick
ad shows no improvement.
Mrs. Ruben Batten grew worse
Saturday and a doctor was called.
Little Steve Driver, son pf Mr.
and Mrs. Howard Driver, spent
a couple of days last week in Rex
Hospital. He’s home and improv
ing now.
Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Wood of
Elizabeth City were guests of the
Raymond Wood’s during the week
end.
Mrs. Pervis Richardson and
children are visiting with relatives
in Philadelphia, Penna.
Mrs. J. W. Wood filled the place
as teacher of the Young Ladies’
Class last Sunday. This was a
new experience for her and was
well done. Many thanks to her.

WILDER-FOWLER WEDDING
Miss Eleanor Frances Fowler,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Henry
Fowler and Mr. David Wilder, son
of Mr. and Earl Wilder, were
united in matrimony Saturday
night at 8:00 in the Tabernacle
Church.
The vows were spoken before a
white candle-lighted altar to the
Rev. S. G. Stevens. White glad
ioli and baby’s breath in green
fernery decorated the altar. White
lighted candles, green fern, and
satin ribbon were along the win
dows and the aisle leading to the
altar.
The bride entered, attended by a
brother-in-law, Claude Watson,
who gave her away.
The bridegroom’s father was
best man.
Mrs. Claude Watson, sister of
the bride, was matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Miss Katie Sue
Hocutt and Miss Vera Joy Wilder.
Wedding music was presented by
Miss Ava Jean Hinnant, pianist,
and Mr. Ronald Hocutt, soloist.
Ushers were Hugh Wilder, cou
sin of the bridegroom, and Rudolph
Moody, cousin of the bride.
Ltitle Frances Hinnant was
flower girl and her little brother,
Cecil, was ring bearer. They were
cousins of the bridegroom.
The bride and bridegroom were
graduates of Corinth Holders High
School.

Mrs. Maude Richardson of the
Tabernacle section spent Wednes
day of last week with Mrs. M. B.
Alford. She also visited a while
with Mrs. W. A. Fuller and Mrs.
Harry Hinnant.
Heartfelt sympathy is expressed
to the Herbert Glover family due
to his passing awhy last week.
Our hearts are bereav'ed because
of the accidental death of Douglas
Parrish near Louisburg Thursday
afternoon of last week.
Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Starnes and
Miriam Rose, Mr. D. L. Moody
and others are very sick from
food poisoning. It is believed to
have come from eating pineapple
cake.
Mr. and Mrs. V. E. Parrish of
Henderson were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. W. E. Fuller Sunday.
Master Tony Alford returned
home with the V. E. Parrishes for
a few days’ visit.
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Hurley and
Jane of Cary were Sunday dinner
guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Al
ford and family. Master Ted Hur
ley returned home with them af
ter a few days’ visit with Tony Al
ford.
Mrs. Ernest Parrish and
dren visited with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. A. E. Carter, of Zebulon
Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. G. C. Honeycutt motored
to Raleigh Monday to see a doctor
for treatments. Her son, Charles
Honeycutt, wife and baby, accom
panied her.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Honeycutt
and daughter left Tuesday morn
ing for San Angelo, Texas, their
home, after two weeks’ visit here.
Showers of rain came Sunday
to about a square mile area in
this section. It was a great bless
ing to those who received it. Much
more is needed in the same and
surrounding communities. The cool
weather also brought relief to
many who were suffering from the
heat and also to the crops. To
bacco is badly burned from the
sun and heat ahd for lack of wa
ter.
Mr. Connie Gay returned to
Washington, D. C., Wednesday of
last week. Mrs. Gay and the

Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Hill and
children of Raleigh were callers
of the M. B. Alfords and W. E. Ful
lers Saturday.
Mrs. P. W. Wood is confined to
her bed with a bad case of mad
itch, the result of a lock-jaw shot
given when she stuck a nail in
her foot. Monday of this week she
suffered wasp stings which aggra
vated her condition.
The Home Demonstration Club
met Wednesday night of this week
at the home of Mrs. Bridgers in
Wendell.
Mrs. F. V. Johnson was given a
stork shower in her home Wednes
day night with Mrs. Julian John
son, &Irs. G. M. Johnson, and Mrs.
Marvin Johnson as hostesses.
Miss Joyce Atkinson of Kenly
is guest of Miss Sally Ann Wood
for a few days.
Mr. Charles Wood, Sally Ann
Wood, and several others spent a
' couple of days last week at
Wfightsville Beach.
Many attended the parade and
| other activities in Wendell last

and Mrs. Kenneth Hinnant.

Ann called at the E. B. Parrishes
Tuesday night.
Colored News
Charlie Young, 77, colored, of
Wendell, Rt. 2, died at the home
of his son Saturday afternoon at
five o’clock after being confined
to his bed for five years.
He married Mary Healon Harts
field and they reared two sons,
Roosevelt and Andrew Young. She
succumbed several years ago and
he married Mrs. Gracie Young, i
who survives his death. Other sur
vivors include his son, Andrew
Young, of Wake County; and a
sister of Durham.
Funeral services were held at 2
p.m. Wednesday at the Rolesville
Church. Interment wa§ in the
church cemetery.

Cpl. Daniel Carroll, son of Mr.
and Mrs. William Carroll, was
drafted Dec. 12, 1950. He is with
the occupation troops at Frankfort,
Germany.
Pvt. Seymour Upchurch, Son of
Mr. and Mrs. Mallie Upchurch, is
now at home on furlough before
leaving for Seattle, Washington,
where he is to embark for oriental
duty. He was Jan. 12, 1951.
Pfc. Smith Richardson, son of
Mrs. Arthur Richardson, entered
the service by draft Nov. 27, 1950.
He is married to the former Miss
Geraldine Jefferys of Spring Hope.
Pfc. Richardson is now stationed at
Ft. Jackson where he is recuper
ating a recent appendectomy.
Cpl. Henry Junior Lamb, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Bud Lamb, enlisted
in the service Oct. 7, 1950. He fin
ished cook’s school with honors,
and is now on his way to Japan
after spending his furlough with
his parents recently.
Sgt. Percy Price enlisted June
5, 1949. He is now in Yokohama,
Japan, where he is Salvage Chief.
Sgt. Price is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Lether Price.
Sgt. Bobby Rex Brown, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Rex Brown, was
drafted into the service Nov. 12,
1950. He is now serving duty in

and Mrs. Herman Creech, entered
the service in 1950. He is with the
Air Force, and is stationed at Bigg
Springs, Tex.
Cpl. Norman Brown, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Dwight Brown, is with
the “Dixie” division, receiving fur
ther training in Indianna. He is
married to the former Miss Sarah
Alice Haley of Rolesville. He was
drafted into the service on Feb.
13, 1951.
Cpl. Tillman Brown, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Dwight Brown, is now
stationed at Fort Leonard Wood,
Mo., after having served 15 months
in Korea. He is training recruits
in Korean warfare tactics at his
present camp.
Chief Warrant Officer Elbert
Tippett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Al
fred Tippett, is aboard the USS
Vulvan at Newport, R. I. He is
chief pay clerk. He is married to
the former Miss Katherine Strick
land, and they have 2 boys and a
girl. Officer Tippett enlisted in
the Navy n 1933.
Chief Pharmacist Mate Douglas
Tippett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Al
fred Tippett, enlisted in the Navy
in 1939. He is now with the hospital
commissary at the naval hospital
in Bethesda, Md. CPM Tippett is
is married to the former Miss Peg
gy Wall of Statesville. They have
a boy and a girl.
