Friday, September 18, 1953 Social & Personal Items Pfc. Kirby Jones is visiting his grandmother, Mrs. Z. N. Culpep per. Ann Winstead, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bodell Winstead left last Sunday for Atlantic Christian Col lege in Wilson where she will be enrolled this year. She was ac companied by her mother and her aunt, Mrs. Walter Murray of Dur ham. Mrs. Ruby Leamon and Mrs. Dottie Ives of Lawton, Okla., spent Tuesday and Wednesday with Mrs. Bernice Bunn and her sister, Mrs. W. W. Grimes. Mrs. Leamon left for Washington, D. C., and Mrs. Ives for Norfolk, Va., on Wednesday. John Eigenbrodt of Naperville, 111., visited Rev. Beverly Asbury from Saturday until Tuesday. Rev. Ralph Cousins of Elberton, Ga., was an overnight guest of Rev. Asbury Tuesday. Mrs. Frederick Chamblee at tended a PTA course of instruction in Cary Tuesday. Class Picnic The Young Men’s Class of the Baptist Sunday School enjoyed a chicken barbecue dinner at the community park Wednesday even ing. C. V. Whftley is teacher, of the class. Wives and children of the class members were special guests. Baptist Services The Rev. Bev. A. Asbury will preach at the Sunday morning ser vices at the Zebulon Baptist Church, and the Youth Choir will sing “Thy Kingdom Come” by Evans. Training Union will meet at 7 o’clock. The W.M.U. Auxiliary Recogni tion with the leader and members of the Auxiliaries of the Union participating will be held at the 8 o’clock evening services. The Junior Choir will sing “Seek Not Afar for Beauty” by Savage-Lon gram. Morning worshin services are held Monday through Saturday of each week at 7:50. Davis, a former member of the Methodist Church. Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Watson and Mr. and Mrs. Doug Finch and Faye of Zebulon, the Clarence Watsons of Fayetteville, and the J. K. Watsons of New Bern were dinner guests of the Hubert Wat sons in Franklinton Sunday. Charles Brooks Finch and a friend, Jack Garland, of Dahl gren, Va., Mrs. Amos Griffin and Mr. and Mrs. William Vick of Bailey were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Finch. The Finches entertained for them at a barbecue supper Saturday night. Mrs. Allene Chamblee is a pa tient in Rex Hospital. WSCS Has Meeting The Woman’s Society of Chris tian Service met at the Methodist Church Monday night. Mrs. Uu trice Carter had charge of the program, “Abundant Life for Ru ral People” assisted by Mrs. S. G. Flowers. The chairman, Mrs. W. D. S. Barbee entertained her club at four tables of bridge at her home on Gannon Avenue. Beautiful arrangements of roses were used in decoration. Four guests besides the club members were present, Messrs. McNabb, Braswell, Ellett, Clara Daniel. Club members were Mesdames J. F. Coltrane, M. B. Chamblee, E. C. Daniel, W. C. Campen, S. G. Flowers, A. R. House, John Horton, E. H .Moser, Fred Page, B. H. John son, C. V. Whitley, F. E. Bunn and the hostess. Delicious refreshments were served at the conclusion of three progressions. No prizes were given at this club. Shower Fetes Bride Tuesday night of last week Miss Doan Starnes and Miss Mona Faye Horton entertained at a linen show er at the home of the former hon oring the bride-elect, Miss Mary Jo Buchanan. Summer flowers were used in decorating and the ' honoree was given a corsage. The home of Mrs. Russell Tay lor was the scene of another party | on Saturday night when Mrs. Tay lor, Miss Sue Taylor and Mrs. Har vey Hocutt entertained for the Miss Buchanan. Mrs. Joe Buchanan, the bride-elect’s mother, and Mrs. E. A. Ledford, her aunt, assisted in serving. Friday night, Misses Temple and Joyce Liles and Bettie and Shirley Hinnant entertained for Miss Buchanan at a kitchen shower at the Liles home. She was given a carnations and a gift of china. There were 20 guests pres ent. Mrs. Brown Hostess Mrs. Vance Brown entertained her bridge club and guests at a lovely party Wednesday afternoon at her home. Upon arrival guests were served a delicious salad course with iced tea. Miss Bobbie Deenis, bride elect of October, was presented a corsage. Following several progressions high and low score prizes for club members were presented Mrs. Dor is Privette and Mrs. Russell Brant ley. Guest prizes were presented Mrs. Helen Gregory and Miss Dee nis. Others playing were Mrs. Ferd Davis, Mrs. Wallace Chamblee, Mrs. Wallace Temple and Mrs. Foster Finch. Mrs. Brown’s home was beauti fully decorated with roses and chrysanthemums. * - Mrs. Bunn Hostess Mrs. Bernice Bunn was hostess to her bridge club and guests this week at her home. Beautiful ar rangements of roses, daisies, as ters, snapdragons and gladioli decorated her home where four tables of bridge were enjoyed.
