THE ZEBULON RECORD Volume XXVII. Number 101. Five County Fair Open This Week Revival at Wakefield To Begin on Sunday; Homecoming at Bethany G. T. Tunstall, pastor-evangelist, will preach at the revival services beginning next Sunday, October 4, at Wakefield Baptist Church. Rev. J. Vernon Brooks, Wakefield pas tor, announces that services will continue through October 11 at 7:30 each night, and invites the public to attend. Bethany Plans T*e annual homecoming of the Bethany Baptist Church, Wendell, Route 2, will be held Sunday, Oc tober 4. Everyone is welcome and we are hoping many of our former pastors and members will attend. Mr. Claude F. Gaddy, Executive Secretary of the Council on Chris tian Education will be the morning speaker. There will be a picnic lunch at noon. The Rev. Brady L. Connell, bro ther of the pastor, will assist in the revival which will begin on Sunday evening, October 4 at 7:30 and Mr. Vander Warner will lead the singing for the services. Air Force Major Talks At Zebulon Rotary Club Major Albert Karnell, chaplain at Stallings Air Force Base, Kin ston, spoke to the Zebulon Rotary Club last Friday night on the sub ject of Asian problems, and the probable future of this nation if America does not awaken to its present perilous situation. Chaplain Karnell, introduced by Aaron Lowery and brought to Zeb ulon by Ted Davis, Stallings public relations director, captured his au dience completely, and held their attention while he pointed out spe cific things being done the wrong way by this country, and suggest ed specific remedies. The world traveler, a Presbyter ian minister in civil life, told the Rotarians that even stringent cor rective measures would avail our country nothing, if they were not accompanied by a simultaneous spiritual effort. During the business session the Rotarians voted to entertain their wives and the Wakelon teachers at a dinner meeting next month. TRUCK CEREMONY PLANNED SATURDAY EVANGELIST ~ BRnJI mi Rev. George Tunstall At Wakefield There was a false alarm before, but it’s official this time! The fire truck recently purchased by the Zebulon Rural Fire Department will be delivered this week, and will be accepted by President M. L. Hagwood on behalf of the fire department’s members in cere monies planned for Saturday, October 3, at 4:00 p.m., at the Zebulon, N. C., Tues., September 29, 1953 Mrs. Ruric Gill of Zebulon is pictured at the left with some of the canned goods which she is entering, along with other res idents of the five counties comprising the Five County Fair area, in the local compe tition this year. Yesterday was entry day at the Five County Fair, and Manager Wade Privette reports good entries despite the extremely dry growing season this year. Today is Visiting Day at the fair, and tomorrow is Colored People’s Day. School children will be admitted free at the gate tomorrow afternoon. Thursday is Farmers’ Day, and Saturday has been designated Everybody’s Day. Fri day will be the big day for white school children, when they will be admitted free (at the gate) during the afternoon. The weather has been extremely favor able for the event thus far. Yesterday dawn ed fair and clear after some 3 inches of rain fell during the weekend, and the manage ment is anticipating record crowds during the balance of this week. FIRE TRUCK WORKERS, COUNTY AGENT PLAN FOR TRUCK DELIVERY Tickets for PTA Supper Now on Sale; Profits To Go for Bus Purchase Tickets are now on sale for the PTA supper, planned for the Wakelon School cafeteria Friday evening, October 9, from 5:00 to 8:00, Mrs. Glenn Hinton, finance | committee chairman, announced yesterday. The tickets, which sell for SI.OO each, may be obtained from Mrs. Hinton, Mrs. Nellie Kemp, Mrs. Rachel Privette, Mrs. Ethel Pip pin, Rodney McNabb, or from Ferd Davis at the Record office. Proceeds from the barbecue j will be used to help purchase the activities bus for school and com munity use, purchase of which was adopted by the PTA as its project for the 1953-54 school year at its September meeting. The purchase of the rural fire truck has been one of the Finer Carolina projects this year. The fire truck is scheduled to arrive this week, after several delays on the part of the manu facturer. Arrival of the unit here will be noted in a brief ceremony at the fairgrounds on Saturday afternoon, October 3. Five County Fair grounds.
