Davis Sons, Publishers Battery A of the 113th Field Artil lery Battalion. Growth of the unit was slow its first year, and in 1950, it went through summer training at Ft. Jackson, S. C., with two offi cers and 37 men. Despite a rapid turnover of per sonnel caused by the draft and expired enlistment, Battery A had grown to a total strength of 51 officers and men when it en camped at Ft. McClellan, Alabama, in 1951. During the following year, the strength was held constant and in 1952, Battery A returned for two weeks at Ft. McClellan with 53 officers and men. The inadequate armory facili ties kept the battery from increas ing its strength during the follow ing year because of the lack of classroom space and storage room. In 1953 the unit again won a rating of superior, operating with 51 men and six officers. When it was evident that the new armory would be ready for oc cupancy in February, 1954, the door was opened for new enlist ments, and the strength rapidly rose to eight officers and 67 men. Authorized strength of the unit, under National Guard reduction tables, is 104 officers and men. During February an intensive re cruiting drive is being conducted to achieve full strength.
