Bunn Seniors Will Begin Final Exercises Tonight Bunn High School will begin its final exercises tonight at 8 o’- clock when the seniors present their class night program, “The Plantation Song,” in the Bunn au ditorium. The exercises continue with the baccalaureate sermon Sunday evening at 8 o’clock and the commencement on Tuesday, May 25 at 8 p. m. Valedictorian this year is Mary Tharrington, and salutatorian is Elaine Pegram. The Rev. A. L. Capps, pastor of Pearce Baptist Church ,will preach the baccalaureate sermon. The in vocation will be asked by the Rev. Eugene Talley, and the benedic tion by the Rev. John Woody. A. R. Burket, Dean of Campbell College, will deliver the com mencement address Tuesday eve ning. He will be introduced by Principal W. H. Kelly of Bunn School, who will also present *he diplomas and awards. Mrs. Ben Perry will sing a solo at the commencement exercises, the invocation will be by Bob Mul linax, and the benediction by the Rev. Eldridge Vinson. SCHOLASTIC LEADERS AT WAKELON naßflß' S I Bk, ™ % i Becky Brantley Scholastic leaders of the graduating class at Wakelon School this year are Becky Brantley, daughter of Mr. Bernard Brantley and the late Mrs. Brantjey of Zebulon, who was chosen valedictorian; and Richard Bullock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur W. Bullock of Zebulon, Route 4, who was named salutatorian. Marlshals for the programs will be Charles Hagwood, chief; Shir ley Breadway, Glenn Perry, Dale Gay, Carolyn Strickland, and Jean Perry. Senior mascots are Amelia Per ry and Douglas Cash. The class advisors are Mrs. Thelma Pippin and Robert Vick. C., Friday, May 21, 1954 Commencement Exercises Listed For Wakelon, Wendell, Corinth Dr. Marc Lovelace To Give Wendell Graduation Talk The final exercises for Wendell High School will begin Sunday evening at 8 o’clock with the ba calaureate sermon, according to Principal E. T. Boyette. The pro gram continues through next week with the class night, glee club pro gram, and graduation exercises. The Rev. Preston Parsons will preach the baccalaureate sermon Sunday evening, Mr. Boyette said. The class night program will feature “One Foot on Earth.” Val edictorian is Dean Richardson, and salutatorian is Joyce Boykin. The program will be given Thursday, May 27, at 8:15 p. m. Others taking part on class night j will be Linda Nowell, historian; Joyce Boykin, poet; Judy Lane, testator; Mary Frances Fuller and > Joe Dean, giftorians; Faye Driver, ; prophet; Kenneth Nowell, presi dent; and Faye Driver and Jerry Lovelace who will give the pro- j logue. The final Glee Club program,! under the direction of Roger W. Cole, will be held Friday morning, l May 28, at 9 o’clock. Mer cer, pastor of the Zebulon Metho dist Church, delivers the bacca laureate sermon using the topic, “Christ’s Challenge to Youth.” The service will begin at 5 o’clock. Thanksgiving Baptist Church will sing the anthem, “The Lord Is My Shepherd,” and the senior anthem will be “Just for Today.” j The exercises will continue on , Monday night at 8 o’clock with the graduation exercises. Roy Arm strong, Director of Admissions at the University of North Carolina, will deliver the address. Valedictorian this year is Mar gie Price, daughter of Mr. and Mrs H. P. Price of Sejma, Route 1; and salutatorian is Martha Bough man, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Boughman of Selma. Route 1. Other awards to be made at the graduation exercise include the presentation of medals for Citizenship, Bus Drivers, Boy Awards, and Girl Awards, accord ing to O. C. Freeman, Principal. Mrs. Slio Vann is sponsor for the graduating class, which includes 42 members. Mascots are Carolyn Parrish, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Parrish, Route 1, Selma; and Steve Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Brown of Route 1, Wendell. Heater Starts Campaign After Illness With assurances that he is not a permanent office seeker and re grets that illness has prevented activity on his part for the past weeks, County Commissioner Rus sell O. Heater got his campaign for reelection into gear this week, ably assisted by fellow citizens of Cary. Heater, who served as chairman of the Wake County Board of Commissioners, called for a re view of his record to see if he merits support. “During my term of office I have sought to the best of my ability to serve the best interests of all the people of Wake County,’’ he said. The incumbent commissioner is president of Heater Well Company, a director of the National Water Well Drillers Association, a mem ber of the Exchange Club and Chamber of Commerce in Raleigh, past president of the North Caro lina State Exchange Club, and a Theo. Childs Wakelon Speaker For Final Exercise Wakelon High School will open its 1954 final exercises with the j baccalaureate sermon Sunday eve ning at 8 o’clock, continuing with the Senior Class Night Wednesday evening, the Glee Club spring con -1 cert Thursday evening, and the graduation exercises on Friday evening, May 28. The Rev. Bev. A. Asbury, pastor of the Zebulon Baptist Church, will preach the baccalaureate ser mota. The invocation will be by the Rev. Vernon Brooks, and the ! benediction by the Rev. J. A. Cald : well. Others taking part Sunday eve ning will be the Glee Club and Richard Bullock, who will sing “The Lord’s Prayer.” Class night Wednesday evening at 8 o’clock, will feature a Class Night Mardi Gras. Taking part will be Sarah Tippett, historian; Shirley Richards and Helen Faye Todd, prophets; Norma Pearce, poet; Carol Richardson and Ddug las Cooke, giftorians; and Faye Pearce, testator. Russell Moss, president of the graduating class, will present the school key to Shirley Ann Up church, president of the class of 1955. Mrs. Mildred S. Hill will be pi anist for the program. Dr. B. G. Childs, of the Depart ment of Education at Duke Uni versity, will be the commencement speaker on Friday evening. He will be introduced by the Rev. S. E. Mercer. The invocation will be by the Rev.
