The truck, a ’54 Ford, was donated by Mr. Henderson to Ellington and the Wakelon Vocational Agriculture Department. It will be replaced each year with a new model. Mr. Henderson, like many dealers throughtout th2 state, is donating the truck as a good will gesture to help foster better agriculture by enabling the teachers to transport ag. students on field trips to observe in action what is taught in the classroom. The truck also serves other purposes including hauling timber from local suppliers to school shop, moving lunchroom supplies and many other errands. Pleasants by a substan tial margin in last Saturday’s bal (See HOPKINS, Page 4) Keen Interest Is Shown t By Voters in Township Former Governor W. Kerr Scott, who has always run well in Lit tle River Township, ran even bet ter than usual last Saturday when he led the ticket with 852 votes in Zebulon to 247 for A. A. Len non, and added to his majority by carrying Mitchell’s Mill, 223 to 71. Other senatorial candidates got few votes in the township. Turner got 2 votes in each precinct, Bost wick got 4 votes in Zebulon and 1 vote at Mitchell’s Mill, Sprinkle re ceived 2 votes in Zebulon, Wing field was given 7 votes in Zebu lon, and Olla Ray Boyd (the hog man) got 3 votes in Zebulon. Largest in County The 852 votes Scott polled in Zebulon was the largest received by the Haw River farmer from any precinct in Wake County, and his Little River Township total (1078 to 318 for Lennon) was the highest in the county, except, of course, for Raleigh Township. The heavy vote appears as evi dence of keen interest in public affairs on the part of the local electorate, which has for nearly a decade voted in larger numbers, percentage-wise, than most other sections of the state. Supporters of Scott, who appears to have won in the first primary, were pleased but quiet after the count here, but at state campaign headquarters in Raleigh the crowd was jubilant. Many Zebulon peo ple went to the Carolina Hotel to wait out the statewide returns.
