House Numbers Are on the Way
By mid-summer or even before
the businesses and residences of
Zebulon will be numbered.
Last week the property number
ing map was received for the town
and is on display at the Town Of
fice. This map was devised by the
League of Municipalities.
Town Manager Willie B. Hop
kins said before any numbering
takes place the streets will have
to be redesignated. This means
that each street marker east of
Arendell Avenue, which is the
north-south axis street, must be
repainted with its proper designa
tion.
He said, for example, Vance
Street west of Arendell must be
designated West Vance Street.
In a like manner Arendell Ave
nue north of Vance Street must be
redesignated North Arendell and
that portion south of Vance Street
must be redesignated South Aren
dell.
Hopkins said a number will be
necessary for every 50 feet of res
idence property and every 25 feet
of business property.
No numbering will be changed,
for the town must abide by the
numbering system set up by the
League.
The following is a proposed ordi
nance establishing a property
numbering system for the Town of
Zebulon.
Mayor Wilbur Debnam said in
all likelihood the following docu
ment will be accepted by the Town
Board of Commissioners at the
May meeting.
Section 1. Numbering Map. The
property numbering map entitled
the “House Numbering Plan” of
the Town of Zebulon and dated

and no other property numbers
shall be used or displayed in the
Town of Zebulon except numbers
assigned in accordance with offi
cial numbering map. The proper
ty numbering map shall be kept
on file in the office of the Town
Clerk.
Section 2. Numbering System.

South axis and an East-West axis
and all avenues, streets or alleys
running generally North and South
