George M. O’Neal, USCG, 17, and
the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. O’
Neal, Rt. 2, Zebulon was scheduled
to complete the 12-week course of
recruit training at lape May, N. J.,
23 May. He will be home for 10
days’ recruit leave prior to report
ing to his first duty station: the
Third Coast Guard District, with
office in New York City.
O’Neal attended • Bunn, High
School before entering the nation’s
sea-going service February 14,
1956.

Wilber Conn was among the
more than one thousand students
who graduated from the University
of North Carolina in Chapel Hill
June 4. He received a bachelor of
arts degree in education, majoring
in the social science field.
While a student at the Univer
sity, Conn was active in the student
government.. He served in the
Student Legislature, was a mem
ber of the Ways and Means Com
mittee, Veterans Committee, a
member of the University Party,
and was a dormitory representa
tive in the University Club.
He also assisted with Fresh
man orientation as a Junior, has
sung in the University Men’s Glee
Club and Male Quartet, and was
appointed to the Senior Committee.
During Commencement week,
Conn sang with an octet for the
Baccalaureate Sermon.
At present his plans are indefi
nite, but he intends teaching in
some high school of the State this
fall.
Conn is the son of Mrs. Janet T.
Conn and the late Mr. Conn.
