Dr. B. Elmo Scoggin Guest Minister For Revival at Pilot Church Dr. Scoggin Dr. B. Elmo Scoggin, professor of Old Testament, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, will be guest minister for revival serv ices at Pilot Baptist Church, March 24-30. The services will be held each evening at 7:30 p.m. with the clos ing service Sunday, March 30, at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Scoggin received his A.B. degree from Furman University, and his Th.M. and Th.D. degrees from the Southern Baptist Theo logical Seminary in Louisville. From 1942 to 1949 Dr. Scoggin served as pastor in Kentucky and Florida. Dr. Scoggin went to Is rael in 1949 as a missionary and re turned to the States in 1955 when he became guest professor of mis sions at Southeastern Seminary. He became Professor of Old Testa ment at Southeastern Seminary in 1956. Dr. and Mrs. Scoggin, who be fore her marriage was Miss Han nah Pearlman of Charleston, S. C., have one daughter, Scarlett. Cottage prayer meetings will be held on Monday and Thursday nights, March 17, 20, in prepara tion for the revival. The meeting on Monday evening will be con ducted by Mrs. John Davis and the pastor of Pilot Church will conduct the service on Thursday evening. The Nursery will be open each evening during the revival. Those working in the Nursery are as fol lows: Monday evening: Mrs. Wil bur Oakley and Mrs. Calvin Spann. Tuesday evening: Mrs. Claude Lewis and Mrs. Will Perry. Wed nesday evening: Mrs. Alex Win stead and Mrs. Lily Bunn. Thurs day evening: Mrs. Robert Perry and Mrs. Adell Jones. Friday eve ning: Mrs. Avon Brantley and Mrs. Ruby Arnold. Saturday eve ning: Mrs. Sonnie Williams and C of C Head In Favor of Industries The new head of the Zebulon Chamber of Commerce is plugging for new industries for the town. Robert Daniel Massey said he is very much in favor of securing new industries coming to Zebulon. “At present, I canrtot foresee the town obtaining any new industries or businesses,” the Chamber pres ident said. Massey said since he has been the new head the Chamber has done nothing. He expects to call a meeting of the directors this week or next. He said he has contacted the di rectors and has asked them to at tend the Capital Area Development Association, Inc., tour in Raleigh. The tour will include Raleigh Far mers Market, Winn-Dixie Ware house and the Westinghouse plant. Massey has been attending the Capital Area meetings for the past year. “When you attend these meet ings, you fiftd out what other com munities are doing,” Massey said. “Some of these things may be ap plied to our own community.” Capital Area Development Asso ciation, Inc., covers the counties of Wake, Johnston, Harnett, Gran ville, Vance and Warren. This association seeks to encour age communities to develop indus try, travel and recreation, agricul ture and community development. Young Hostess Has Slumber Party It wasn’t until the wee small hours of the morning when the sandman finally caught up with the girls and they fell to sleep hap pily. The eight girls were Misses Lo retta Cawthorne, Ann Hopkins, Pat Brantley, Faye Griswold, Judy Overman, Judy Perry, Faye Tem ple and Glenda Wilson. Miss Wilson was hostess at this slumber party at her home last Sat urday night. During the evening filled with listening to late hour dance music over the radio and munching on everything from popcorn to pickles, the girls enjoyed themselves tre mendously. The charming wife of Lion Frank Kemp has entertained Lion conventions in the cities of Chica go, New York, and Atlantic City, and in the states of Florida and California with her dramatic soprano. The honor of being appointed as one of the two hostesses from North Carolina to serve in the Hospitality Room in lie conven tion hotel during the International Convention held in San Francisco last year was also bestowed upon her. Some 25 children in these departments participated in a Doll Festival. On March 3 in Japan, the children of that country hold a Doll Festival. The children of the Methodist Church patterned their festival after this important oriental occasion. The girls in each of the depart ments brought one or two dolls and put them on display. There were enough to cover a three tiered shelf. Then the group sang simple Japanese songs and joined in a Japanese tea party with a tea base punch and real Japanese cookies. The Rev. Troy J. Barrett, min ister of the church, Mrs. Robert D. Massey, Mrs. Douglas Finch, and Mrs. Andrew Jenkins were in charge of the festival. Four Wakelon Pupils To Be Seen On TV Four Wakelon students will ■participate on a panel discussion next Tuesday night, March 25, at 7 o’clock on WUNC-TV, Channel 4. On this program, which will originate from the State College studios, will be Leary Davis, Jackie Mitchell, Mary Jo Pace and Thurs ton Perry. They will discuss labor unions and strikes.
