Mrs. Oren Massey is visiting the W. P. Howards, and they all have been vacationing at Cape Cod, Mass., for the past two weeks. * Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Andrews and son Henry, spent the weekend in Morehead City. * Mrs. Amos Estes and children of Elon College spent from Wednes day through Sunday with her par ents, thC C. V. Whitleys. Mr. Estes joined1 them for the weekend. * Mrs. Frank Wall and children are spending this week at Wtights ville Beach. * f he Ernest Suttons and daugh ter of Havelock spent the weekend with Mts. Sutton’s mother, Mrs. Julia Spivey. ' * Mrs. Ann Harris is spending the week with her daughter and fam ily, the Ferd Davises. Mrs. Evelyn LaRossa of Coral Gables, Florida, visited her moth er, Mrs. A. D. Antone several days last week. * Mr. and Mrs. Broadus Davis of Buckhead, Ga., visited his brother, Rev. and Mrs. Theo. Davis for sev eral days last week. While here they all visited Manteo, The Duke Gardens and other points of inter est. * The John Clark family is spend ing this week camping out in the Great Smoky Mountains. * Mr. and Mrs. Carsey Tippett at tended a convention of tobacco nists at Hot Springs, ‘West Va., most of this week. * Mrs. Georgia Croom and chil dren left Tuesday for Claxton, Ga., where Mrs. Croom will be an at tendant in the wedding of her niece, Miss Glenda Eddins. The Howard Becks spent the weekend in Maxton with her mother, Mrs. Lawrence , Britt. Howard, Jr. remained to spend this week with relatives there. * Mrs. A. S. Hinton will leave Mary Elizabeth Hospital the mid dle of this week and go to the home of her son, Jack, in Raleigh. She is improving nicely. * Miss Dottie Privette has ac cepted a position as organist for the First Baptist Church in Thom asville. She will begin her duties there the last Sunday in June. * Miss Gayle Privette is spending the summer at Camp Merrie Woode where she will serve as •waterfront director in charge of swimming. Snyder and her family in Jonesboro Sun day. * Mrs. Sidney Holmes and boys visited her parents in Columbia, S. C., while Mr. Holmes was at Fort Bragg with the National Guard. Sidney, Jr. remained in Columbia for a longer visit. * Mrs. T. Y. Puryear, Record cor respondent for Pleasant Hill, is confined to bed with an infected foot. * Miss Vera Rhodes is slowly re covering from a recent illness. BRIDGE CLUBS Mrs. Donald Stallings was hos tess to her bridge club and a num ber of guests Friday night. Club members present were Mesdames Julian Horton, Rodney McNabb, and Bob Sawyer. Guests were Mesdames Edwin Richardson, Frank Massey, Thurman Murray, Henry Massey and Miss Ruby Dawson. Mrs. McNabb won high for club, Mrs. Frank Massey, high for guests, and Mrs. Bob Sawyer, low. The Stallings home was beauti fully decorated with arrangements of mixed summed flowers. Following several progressions delicious refreshments of home made pound cake, nuts, pineapple and orange sherbet and coffee were served. Cokes were served during play. Mrs. Steve Blac kley delightfully entertained her bridge club and guests Wednesday evening in her home. Following several progres sions high and low score prizes for club members were presented Mrs. Charles Hawkins and Mrs. Thurman Murray respectively. High and low fcr guests went to Miss Mary Lacy Palmer and Mrs. Helen Gregory. Others playing were Mesdames Frank Massey, Ben Thomas, Norman Screws and the hostess. A delicious dessert course was served by the hostess at the end of the evening. • Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong Can nady were hosts to their Couples Club at a lovely party Saturday night. Their home was beautiful with arrangements of day lilies, dwarf phlox and other summer flowers. Mr. and Mrs. Bernice Bunn were awarded high score prize for the evening’s fun and low went to Dr and Mrs. Ben Thomas. Others pres ent were Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Finch, Dr. and Mrs. George Tuck er, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Beck, and Miss Ruby Dawson. Delicious strawberry tarts, sandwiches and punch were serv ed by the hosts. COME TO STAY Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Barbour of 613 Arendell Ave., Zebulon an nounce the birth of a son, Dwight DeVann, on June 21, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfleld. Cake Cutting A pre-rehearsal luncheon was given attendants and out-of-town ( guests prior to the wedding re hearsal of Miss Betsy Pope Simp son and Mr. James LeRoy Raper Friday night, June 13, at 5:45 o’ clock. The luncheon was given by Mr. and Mrs. Hugh M. Raper, un cle and aunt of the bridegroom, at the Reinlyn House in Raleigh. The menu consisted of tomato juice, baked ham, tossed vegeta ble salad, squash, beets, green beans, and hot rolls. Frozen sher bet was served for dessert. Following the 8 o’clock rehear sal, a cake-cutting was given hon oring the bride and bridegroom at the clubhouse by Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Sutton and Jean. The clubhouse was beautifully decorated. The wedding table was lovely with the wedding veil cen tered, a cutglass punch bowl, and a three tiered cake topped with the traditional miniature bride and bridegroom.
