pany’s open house held in Zebulon
Friday evening, December 2, from
6:30 to 9 p.m., officials of the com
pany said.
Special machines were operated
during the evening which greatly
impressed those persons who at
tended. More than 400 current
samples were spread on the long
cutting tables in the cutting room
to the amazement of those present.
The snack bar was in service
during the evening.
Devil Dog officials expressed
their appreciation for the interest
shown by their many friends.
Tobacco Meeting
For Farmers
The Wakelon Adult Farmer
Class of Wakelon High School
Agriculture Department will hold
its second in a series of meetings
Monday, December 12, at 7:30 p.
m., according to C. V. Tart, agri
culture instructor.
The topic for this meeting will
be “Tobacco Varieties and Di
seases.” Robert M. Reams, a N.
C. State College graduate and
plant breeder in Wake County,
will lead the discussion, Tart said.
All farmers in the community
interested in the production of to
bacco are invited to attend.
Zebulon’s big Sell-a-BRAY-shun
Days, a bargain festival to be held
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday,
will provide unusual buys of every
kind for shoppers in Zebulon.
Savings from 25 % to 50% are of
fered on valuable merchandise by
participating merchants.
Typical of the bargains avail
able in Zebulon during the big
three-day event are those found in
this issue of the Record.
Aaron Lowery, secretary of the
Zebulon Chamber of Commerce,
said that the Sell-a-BRAY-shun
Days will serve as the kickoff for
the Zebulon Christmas shopping
season.
“Our merchants have a wider
selection of quality merchandise
than ever before,” he said, “and
Sell-a-BRAY-shun Days serve
as Zebulon’s invitation to every
one to visit its stores.”
The special event is being
promoted widely through news
paper advertising, direct mail, and
radio. Radio Station WETC is giv
ing saturation coverage to its list
eners with spot announcements,
and The Zebulon Record is pro
viding direct mail in addition to
the advertising which appears on
the inside pages.
For the 1960 Christmas shopping
season, the entire business district
has made special effort to stock
everything anyone desires for the
Yule season.
All stores have wide gift selec
tions for every member of the
family, and this year the town is
truly a one-stop shopping center.
The unusual bargains, quality,
service, and satisfaction found in
Zebulon stores provide the busi
nesses’ answer to competition from
shopping centers in Raleigh, Dur
ham, and other larger towns.

NEWS BRIEFS
Church Family
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Mangas have
been ohosen Church Family of the
Month for Pilot Bhptist Church.
Mrs. Mangas is one of the teachers
in the Primary No. 1 Sunday
School Class. This is a class of
six-year-olds and they have done
a tremendous job in training these
boys and girls. She is one of the
Program Chairmen for the Dozier
Circles.
Mr. Mangas came from the state
of Arkansas. He is at present the
Sunday School Superintendent of
the Adult Department. He should
be commended for the fine work
he is now doing in our church and
community.
They do not have any children
of their own but their love for
children is seen each Sunday as
they load up their car with chil
dren of members of Mary’s family
and head for church.

Church Attendance
The Pilot Baptist Church Sun
day School attendance for the
month of November was 328. This
was the same number as October
and therefore the average for the
church year to date is 328. The
average attendance 11 years ago
was 198; six years ago 245; and
last year 302.
The average Training Union at
tendance for the month of No
vember was 96; last year it was 87.
The average this church year to
date is 104.

WMU Week
The WMU Week of Prayer for
Foreign Missions was observed at
the Pilot Baptist Church from No
vember 28-December 2. Each of
the. four circles was in charge
of the program at the Community
Room during the week. Rev.
Parker McLendon, our Associa
tional Missionary, taught the study
course on Spanish America. He al
so showed films titled: The Chal
lenge of Latin America and World
Evangelism in Latin America. We
had a good group present for the
study.
A pretty little Zebulon girl’s
voice is wafting over the air-ways.
The charming and wonderful
voice is that of Diane Bailey. She
has a new recording, one of the
most popular out this Christmas
season.
Diane’s recordings, are “Give Me
Your Heart for Christmas” and
“Return of Christmas.” The ly
rics were composed by a Knight
dale native.
Diane was bom on January 5,
1949, about four miles south of
Zebulon. At the age of two years
she was displaying her rare talent.
When she was four she was sing
ing number one hit songs as fast
as they appeared on radio. At this
time, she was also appearing on
amateur contests throughout the
State.
In 21 contests, Diane won 18
first places. In many cases she
was competing against college stu
dents and still came out on top.
In 1957, when she was eight
years old, she won a contest that
gave her and her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Wilson Bailey, a free
trip to the Grand Ole Opera in
Nashville, Term. While there she
appeared on the Junior Grand Ole
Opera. Many of the top record
ing and singing stars on the Grand
Ole Opera said, “All this child
needs is a chance and she will go
places.”
Diane is in the sixth grade at
Corinth-Holders School.
Bookkeeping Service
A 'bookkeeping service opened
in Zebulon Monday.
Mrs. Sarah Massey announced
that she will be available for all
types of bookkeeping services,
stenographic services, and the fill
ing out of all types of tax forms.
Her office is located on Arendell
Avenue, in the building formerly
occupied by Dwight and Zollie
Culpepper.
Her hours will be from 9 until
5. For those persons unable to
contact her during the day, she
will be available for night ap
pointments.
Mrs. Massey, 24, is the wife of
Rudell Massey. She is the mother
of two children, Karen Jo, 4; and
Brian, 3. The family resides on
Route 3, Zebulon.
She is the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Tippett.
Mrs. Massey was awarded a one
year certificate in accounting from
Woman’s College.
Dance Recital
Mrs. Frank Massey’s students of
dance will be presented in a
Christmas recital Wednesday night,
December 14, at Wakelon School
Auditorium. Proceeds from this
revue will be given to the Boys
Home of North Carolina at Lake
Waccamaw. The local Lions Club
is one of the sponsors of the Boys
Home.

Garden Club
The Carmen Flowers Garden
Club will hold its December meet
ing Monday night, December 12,
at the home of Mrs. Carsey Tip
pett. Hostessing with Mrs. Tippett
will be Mrs. Frank Kannon and
Mrs. George Tucker. A workshop
will be held at this gathering and
each member is supposed to bring
a Christmas design or decoration.
