Model Plane Enthusiast
Frank Ceruzzi, assistant admin
istrator of the Wake Memorial
Hospital, spends much of his spare
time working on model planes.
With his children, Louis, 4, and
Brenda Mae, 3, he has finished
many models, some being
equipped with gasoline engines.
, Next, he plans to start construct
ing small gauge railroads. His
other hobbies are sports, chess and
photography.
Ceruzzi, who claims now to be
full-fledged Southerner, came to
North Carolina from Fort Chester,
N. Y., to serve in the Army at
Fort Braigg.
After finishing his tour of duty,
he decided to stay on and attend
college here.
He attended Louisburg College
and graduated from East Caro
lina College in 1950 with a bache
lor of science degree in science
and physical education.
He taught school for a time in
Study Course
Mrs. Edward Lehman will teach
the mission study course at Hop
kins Chapel Church Friday night,
March 24, at 7:30 o’clock. The book
is entitled “The Dreamer Cometh.”
This is the WMS mission study
course.
Walstonburg, and returned to serv
ice for one year in the Marines.
Afterward he went with the Vir
ginia State Health Department in
the field of sanitation.
Ceruzzi entered the School of
Hospital Administration at the
Medical College of Virginia in
1955 and following his graduation,
he served one year as adminis
trative residency at Petersburg
General Hospital. He came back
to North Carolina as hospital ad
ministrator in Mocksville, where
he served until accepting the posi
tion he now holds in Wake County.
He is a former member of the
Fuquay Springs Junior Chamber
of Commerce and Rotary Club. He
was voted the outstanding young
man of the year 1958 in Mocksville.
He is a member of the N. C.
Hospital Association and the A
meTiican Hospital Association. He
is past chairman of District 2 of
the N. C. Hospital Association. He
has served as a member of the
Board of N. C. Chapter of Hos
pital Accountants. He also is a
member of the Board of Food
Planning Institute and the Wake
County Cancer Society.
He is married to the former Ed
na Squires of Kelly, N. C.
Ceruzzi and his family reside
in Fuquay-Springs.
Aide Class Completes 30
Hours Of Special Instruction
Nine community women finish
ed a 30-hour nurses aide course
last Friday. This course was
taught by Mrs. Crafton Hudson,
assistant director of nurses at Wen
dell-Zebulon Hospital.
The nine women were Mrs. Zel
ma Pearce, Mrs. Mavis Denton,
Mrs. Ruth Eason, Mrs. Hazel Hor
ton, Mrs. Lov’ie Cooke, Mrs. Hat
tie Brantley, Mrs. Marie Williams,
Mrs. Vernon Perry and Mrs. Paul
Strickland.
The aides were taught nursing
procedure, professional ethics,
taking temperature, pulse, respira
tion, several types of bedmaking,
treatments and how to admit and
discharge patients, Mrs. Hudson
said.
“I feel these women are now
ready and well-qualified for good
bedside nursing,” Mrs. Hudson
said. “They were ready and eager
to learn and are anxious to be of
service.”
The assistant director of nurses
said five of these women will be
employed immediately. Others
will be kept in reserve and called
when needed..
Certificates have been presented
to the nine.
These nine women finished a 30-hour nurses aide class under
the direction of Mrs. Ruby Hudson. Left to right, front row, are:

Hospital Bookkeeper
Mrs. Josephine Knott was em
ployed as cashier, admitting officer
and bookkeeper of Wendell-Zebu
lon Branch Hospital February 27.
Mrs. Knott, 32, is the oldest of
four children of Mrs. Jim Coley of
Wendell and the late Mr. Coley.
She is a graduate of Knightdale
High School:
Prior to accepting a position
with the local hospital she was
employed with the Compensation
Rating Bureau and was reception
ist of the Wake County Health De
partment of Raleigh.
She is a member of Wendell
Baptist Church and is active in
the religious organizations of her
church. She is assistant Sunday
School teacher of the Eureka
Couples Class.
Her hobbies are reading, dancing
and sports. “Just simple pleas
ures,” she said. “But I have no
time for hobbies, really.”
She is married to Charles Knott,
who is parts manager of R&W
Pontiac Co. of Wendell. They are
the parents of two children, Ihrie
Lee, 7, and Allen, 3. The family
resides on Wilson Avenue, Wen
dell.
Over 200 people, including three
physicians from outlying areas
turned out last Thursday night at
the Middlesex School auditorium
to listen and talk about a subject
vital to them—that of securing a
doctor to attend the people of
Middlesex and the surrounding
areas, which has been without a
doctor since the death of Dr. E.
C. Powell in 1959.
The chief attraction of this par
ticular night was Norman H. Da
vis, director of the Medical Pro
gram of the Sears-Roebuck
Foundation, who came from Chi
cago to Middlesex to offer as
sistance.

dell-Zebulon Branch Hospital.
The hospital is located aibout
1,500 feet west of the corporate
limits of the Town of Zebulon be

It is a one story, compact and
complete medical center set on a
5.49 acre site which cost $10,980.
Cost of the equipment was
$40,000. The site was purchased
from H. Wayne Whitley of Rocky
Mount.
The exterior is of brick con
struction, yellow-beige in color. A
long masonry screen extends
across the front of the unit.

Wakelon Pre-School
Registration Set
For March 27
Pre-school registration for
Wakelon School will be held
March 27 beginning at 9 o’clock in
the school cafeteria. This regis
tration is for children who will
enter tae school for the 1961-62
term.
Parents of pre-school children
are requested to bring their child’s
birth certificate and immuniza
tion record.
Children entering the next term
of school are to attend the pre
school clinic April 6. The clinic
will be held at 9 o’clock in the
gymnasium.
Children entering Wakelon first
grades next session must be six
years old by October 16.
Mrs. Fred Page is the chairman
of the pre-school registration and
clinic.
Pool Association Elects
Officers For Coming Year
The Board of Directors of the
Zebulon Swimming Pool Associa
tion, Inc., met Saturday, March 4,
for the purpose of electing officers
of the Association. The meeting
was held in Zebulon Municipal
Building court room.
By unanimous vote the following
officers were named: Ben D.
Thomas, president; Tom Monk,
vice president; Robert D. Massey,
treasurer; and Ferd L. Davis,
counsel for the corporation.
Crafton Hudson was elected sec
retary by a majority vote.
By unanimous vote of the di
rectors the membership fee for
next year was set at $165 with a
grace period to expire March 31,
allowing applicants now to obtain
memberships at $150 each.
The president was directed to
obtain adequate liability insur
ance for the Association covering
its pool properties and the opera
tion thereof. The board was in
formed that Zebulo 1 Supply Co.
proposed to donate paint for the
interior of the bathhouses and that
Lou Ballard, local paint contractor,
proposed to paint the houses for
the cost of labor.
A swimming pool committee with
all authority recited in the by
laws was elected by the Board.
Its members are Frank Kemp,
chairman; John Glover, M. L. Hag
wood, Coy Pate and Hardin Hin
ton.
