Wakelon Teacher Retiring
After 28 Years of Service

tires at the end of the present f
school term.
“I just want to do some of the \
things I’ve always wanted to do \
and never had a chance to do,” \
Mrs. Jones, a veteran of 28 years \
in the class room, said.
She indicated that she plans to
do a lot of flower gardening. She \
loves flowers.
“My years have been pleasant :
in the class room,” she said. “I I
have loved working with children i
and their parents. But I don’t i
have any regrets about retiring.
I feel that I have given my best 1
and I don’t want to become a j
Hanger-on.”
Mrs. Jones is the wife of Ray
Jones. The couple reside in
Wakefield.

First Month's Operation
Of Hospital 'Satisfactory
Frank Ceruzzi, branch admin
istrator of Wendell-Zebulon Hos
pital, said recently that citizens
of this area have made the first
month’s operations of the hospital
“most satisfactory.”
Ceruzzi said figures for the dai
ly load haven’t been compiled but
the need for hospital facilities in
this area is apparent due to the
fact that the daily patient load has
increased each week and the use
of the facilities in the hospital
likewise.
One hundred eighty-seven used
the private out-patient lab and x
ray facilities during the first
month’s operation.
The administrator said the finan
cial future of the hospital looks
bright because of the wonderful
support the community-at-large
has given the hospital.
Wendell and Zebulon physicians
were lauded by the young admin
istrator, saying they have used the

Forty-seven seniors of Corinth
Holders were awarded diplomas at
the close of the 1960-61 school
year, according to Principal H. C.
Bowers.

Mrs. A. R. House
A charter member of Zebulon
Methodist Church’s WSCS was
presented a life membership pin
Monday night in special services
at the meeting of the woman’s
organization.
Mrs. A. R. House is the sixth
member of the Christian organi
zation to be presented the life
membership pin. The presenta
tion was made by Mrs. R. E.
Kitchings, who received the award
last year.

Popular Young Zebulon Man Found Dead in Kentucky
A popular young Zebulon father
was found dead in a motel room in
Lexington, Ky„ early Sunday
morning.
Charles Allen Weathersby, 27,
died of a heart attack Sunday
morning, May 28, at 4:30. He was
found .by the motel keeper.
Teacher Resigns
Band Director Herbert Ireland
will not be returning to Wakelon
School next year. He submitted
his resignation last week.
Ireland, who has been at Wake
Ion for the past four years, has
accepted a position as band direc
tor at Holabird Junior High School
in the Baltimore (Md.) city school
system.
Ireland will complete work on
his master of music degree at East
Carolina College this summer. He
and his family will move to Mary
land following his schooling.
No director has been hired to
succeed him.
He left for Lexington late Sat
urday where he was associated
with the American Suppliers To
bacco Company. He had worked
on tobacco markets in Wendell,
Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and
Wilson. He had been associated
with American Suppliers Tobacco
Company for four years.
He was a member of Zebulon
Baptist Church, Zebulon Masonic
Lodge, and Zebulon Lions Club.
He became a 32nd degree Mason
and Shriner in May at ceremonies
held in Wilmington.
He is survived by his wife, the
former Jean Corbett of Zebulon;
two sons, Charles Allen, Jr., and
James Gray, both of the home;
his mother, Mrs. C. G. Weathers
by of Zebulon and- a half-sister,
Mrs. J. H. Gary of Kinston.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the
Zebulon Baptist Church with the
Rev. William K. Quick, pastor of
Zebulon Methodist Church, and
Dr. J. W. Kincheloe of Rocky
Mount officiating.
Burial was in the Zebulon cem
etery with full Masonic rites with
members of Zebulon and White
stone Lodges participating.
Members of Zebulon Lions Club
and Zebulon and Whitestone Ma
sonic Lodges sat in a body at the
services.
