YMAs Hear Mrs. Ruth
Chamblee Expound
Mrs. Ruth Chamblee was the
featured speaker last Tuesday
night before the YWA group of
Zebulon Baptist Church. She
taught the 'book, “Hands Across
the Sea.’’
Prior to the meeting, the girls
were entertained with a supper by
the Business Women’s Circle. This
Circle sponsors the girls’ organi
zation.
The supper consisted of baked
ham, peas and carrots, creamed
potatoes, homemade pound cake,
ice cream, and iced tea.
Eleven members were present.
Mrs. Woodrow Pippin and Mrs.
Jack Tippett are counselors for the
group.
Middlesex's Oldest
Resident Dies
Funeral services were held Fri
day afternoon, November 17, for
Middlesex’s oldest resident, Mrs.
Martha Chamblee High. Mrs.
High, 88, died Thursday morning
in Middlesex.
She was the wife of the late Seba
High, Middlesex businessman.
Mrs. High, daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Chamblee of
Zebulon, was a charter member of
Middlesex Methodist Church and
3 former school teacher. She was
i graduate of Norfolk College.
Surviving are one daughter,
Mrs. K. D. Morgan of Tarboro, and
seven grandchildren.
The Rev. Ben Wilson III, offi
ciated at the rites held in Middle
sex Methodist Church. Burial was
n Middlesex Cemetery.

When Mrs. Jimmy Wheeler en
tertained the Bid-M Bridge Club
last week she served a spaghetti
supper with pear salad and iced
tea. For dessert there was straw
berry shortcake and coffee.

Mrs. M. L. Hagwood, Mrs. James
Alford, Mrs. Jack Liles, Mrs. Bob

Funeral services were held Sun
day for Eddie Richardson at
Wakefield Baptist Church with Dr.
C. E. Askew officiating. It has
been said that the funeral was
the largest attended in the history
of the church. Mr. Richardson de
parted this life Wednesday, No
vember 22. He leaves to mourn a
wife, Mrs. Annie Mae Richardson:
eight daughters, Mrs. Myrlena
Perry of New York, Mrs. Mattie
Lee Spells of Raleigh, Mrs. Vergie
Holder of Zebulon, Willie Mae,
Verna Mae, Janet, Lavernia and
Teresa Richardson, all of Zebulon;
four sons, James Edward, Eddie,
Jr., Bobbie Lee and Dewey Rich
ardson, all of Zebulon, one sister,
Mrs. Rena Battle of Zebulon, two
uncles, James High of Raleigh,
and Matha High of Philadelphia,
Pa., and 11 grandchildren.
The family wishes to express its
sincere appreciation and gratitude
to the many wonderful friends and
neighbors ’ for their kind expres
sions of sympathy during their
hour of bereavement.

Wedding, directed by Mrs. Lona
Richardson, was a success. Little
Judy Faye Champion was given
an award for having the highest
amount of money—$50.00.
“Queen for a Night,” was held
at Wakefield Baptist Church Fri
day night, November 24, Miss Bal
rie Parks and Dwight Parham were
the winners. Miss Parks was
crowned queen. Runners-up were
Miss Vergie Vick, Miss Mildred
Privette and Miss Carolyn Nicho
las. Melvin Privette, a student at
Elizabeth City State College, sang,
accompanied by Kenneth Davis, a
student of A. and T. College,
Greensboro. Mrs. Rochel Malone,
teacher at Shepard School, placed
the crown on the queen; Mrs. Ada
Dunn presented the gifts; Mrs.
Mattie Jones took the record and
made the announcement.
