Lady Golfers Show Skill To Visitor From Raleigh A petite but powerful lady golf- ! er from Raleigh was the guest at I the Woman’s Golf Association of; the Lakeside Country Club Tues day, November 7. Mrs. Virginia I Mann, member of the Raleigh! Country Club demonstrated her skill as a golfer by posting a score of 38 to the 12 Wendell women present Tuesday morning. A low putt contest was held and Mrs. John Glover was presented , a golf towel by Mrs. W. A. Scar- I borough. A Dutch luncheon was held after the golf match at Dolphin’s Restau- I rant, Mrs. Ben Thomas, president I of the Association, presided over! the meeting. Mrs. Ben Tongue read the minutes o fthe past meet- j ing. It was agreed by the mem- | bers to hold a Turkey Tourna ment on Tuesday, November 14. A $1 entry fee will be paid by the .members and the winner will i be determined by using the Calla- I way system. It was announced by the mem bership chairman that the Asso ciation had 18 members at the present time. Mrs. Thomas then introduced Mrs. Mann who explained to the members the various Woman’s Golf Associations that clubs in North Carolina may belong to. She discussed the North Caro lina Women’s Golf Association and listed the requirements to belong to this group. There are 101 clubs belonging to this organization at the present time. The fee for membership is $10 yearly. The Association holds an annual State Tournament which will be held at Pinehurst the first week in Oc tober of next year. The club was interested in becoming a member of the Association and will pre sent this plan to the Board of Di rectors for their approval. Mrs. Mann also invited the group to participate in the City County Tournament. The club presented Mrs. Mann a lovely wooden ice bucket. Her visit to Wendell was an enjoyable one as well as a profitable one to the members because not only is she a very proficient golfer, but also is a leader in the golf world. Her accomplishments in the field of golf are as follows: served as State Handicap chairman for the N. C. Woman’s Golf Association, 1957; president of the Tar Heel Woman’s Golf Association, 1954 55; State Tournament chairman for the N. C. Woman’s Champion ship, 1961; past Raleigh Country Club champion; three times win ner of the Tar Heel Woman’s Golf Association, 1954-55-60, and member of the Carolina Women’s Golf team for four years, 1957-61. Blalock-Richardson Vows Said In Bethlehem Baptist Church on Saturday, Miss Pattie Jo Richard son and Robert E. Blalock ex changed their marriage vows. The Rev. Allen Laymon officiated. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Jack Denton of Knightdale and Jessie Richardson of Wendell. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence William Bla lock, Jr., of the Old Stage Road. Mrs. Robert Lassiter of Knight dale, organist, and Boyd Spence of Raleigh, vocalist, presented music. The bride was given in marriage by her stepfather, Jack Denton of Knightdale. She wore a gown of peau de soie and Venice lace, fashioned with a scoop neckline. Her skirt of silk and lace extended into a chapel train. She wore a lace coronet to which her veil was at tached and she carried a bouquet of lilies of the valley, centered with an orchid. Mrs. J. O. Early, Jr., of Knight dale was matron of honor and wore a gown of pink velveteen and chiffon. Wearing gowns of tur quoise velveteen and chiffon were Miss Betsy Fulghum of Raleigh and Miss Jackie Kirk of Knight dale, the bridesmaids. The at tendants carried bouquets of pink flowers. Best man was Jerry Juang of Franklinton. Ushers were J. O. Early, Jr., of Knightdale. Chesley Knott of Garner, uncle of the bride, Chancey Moore of Raleigh and G. A. Barnes of Clayton. For her daughter’s wedding, Mrs. Denton wore an aqua dress of satin with matching accessories and a cymbidium orchid. The mother of the bridegroom wore a dress of pink wool with brown and beige accessories and an orchid. For a northern wedding trip, the bride wore a magenta suit with black accessories and an orchid corsage. The bride attended Hardbarger Business College and is employed with State Mortgage Co., Inc. Mr. Blalock is a graduate of Campbell College and is employed with Thompson Cadillac - Oldsmobile Co., Inc. The couple will reside in Ral eigh. Witnesses Meet Jehovah’s Witnesses in North Carolina Circuit No. 2 will meet tor their semi-annual assembly December 1-3 in Dunn.
