Baptist- Choirs
To Present
Christmas Program
The Zebulon Baptist Choirs,

Plans are underway to modern
ize same of the town’s street
lighting.
At the December board meeting,
Commissioners Elizabeth Ellett
and Pat Farmer were appointed to
confer with Carolina Power and
Light Company officials about the
project.
Town Manager Willie B. Hop
kins said some of the streets in the
residential areas have old out
moded street lights. He said plans
are to enlarge the lighting fixtures
and replace the old type lamps
with new ones.
Hopkins said that this modern
ization of the street lights has been
needed for a long time.
The board acted on a resolution
to encourage property owners with
vacant lots to have them cleaned
and beautified.
Hopkins said there are lots in
the town which are unkept and
eye sores. These vacant lots are
over-grown with weeds and are
filled with debris and junk. Many
of these places, he continued, have
become junk heaps.
“It is embarrassing for out-of
town people to see how junk-rid
den and unsightly some of the
vacant lots are. And we urge that
property owners of such lots see
that they are cleaned up immedi
ately. If not, the town will clean
them and charge it to the property
owner.”
The board voted to adopt reso
lution 12-61-1, which authorizes
the mayor to apply with the Home
and Finance Agency of the United
States government for aid in fi
nancing the construction of a sew
er disposal plant in the out-fall
lines and water filter plant and
water main for the purpose of
water treatment and distribution.
In the very near future, the
people of Zebulon will go to the
polls and vote for a bond for the
purpose of constructing the sewage
disposal and water filter plants.
However, Hopkins said, the is
suance of these bonds by the gov
ernment will save the people of
Zebulon between $45,000 and $50,
