Brame left, a plaque Thursday, Sept. 6, on the Wendell judge’s retirement from the N. C. State Board of Paroles. Brame spent nine years on'the board and suc ceeding him is N. F. Ransdell. Miss Rachel Perry, right, attended the presentation held in the Governor’s office. She was the Judge’s secretary—the only secretary he had during his many years as a public servant. White, Colored Youth Charged With Affray Saturday Night Benny Cawthorne and Elvis Horton were released on $50 bond Saturday night after being charg ed with engaging in an affray. Cawflhorne, 18, and Horton, a 19-year-old Negro, scrapped in front of the bus station. Police were unsure of how the affair started. It was reported that something had happened to Cawthorne’s car and he was laying a cussing on it. Horton passed by and heard the profanity and asked if Cawthorne were cussing him. Then before either knew what was going on they were slugging it out. The affray occurred Saturday night at 12:45 o’clock. Police stated that neither had been drinking. Night Policeman Wendell Perry was the investigating officer. Shotgun Toter Arrested Just walking around with a shotgun Saturday night landed Carl Ivey, Negro, in jail. He was still jailed Tuesday. Police said Ivey, age unknown, was walking about the premises of Katie Mae’s, a colored night spot on Barbee Street, and in that area Saturday night carrying a 12 gauge single barrel shotgun. Ivey, who had been drinking, according to police, claimed he was not after anybody. Police were notified after he visited the night spot. Arresting officer was Wilson Stallings. He was assisted by Night Policeman Wendell Perry. 3 Drunks Three persons were jailed dur ing the weekend (or intoxication, according to town officials. No names were released. School Enrollments. Enrollment figures for the 1962 63 school year have been released by the Wake County Superintend ent’s office for the schools of Wakelon, Rolesville, Wendell and Knightdale. High Elem. Wakelon . 258 599 Rolpsville . 127 356 Wendell ...L 170 472 Knightdale . 191 634 100 MPH Chase Ends Sunday Night-On Rural Road Here A teen-age colored youth led Night Policeman Wendell Perry on a 100 mph chase Sunday night. Perry said James Montague, 19, of Route 2, Zebulon, was clocked doing 100 mph. He was appre hended on a farm road a few miles from Zebulon. The Negro youth drove up to the Sinclair station, got out, got back in his car and took off. He drove down Highway 64 bypass, with Officer Perry chasing him, and then turned off onto a dirt road which led by Pet 'Horton’s home. Perry said the road was slick, for it had rained only a short time before. The Negro was arrested for careless and reckless driving and exceeding the speed limit. He was released under bail of $400. Montague was not drinking, ac cording to the officer, and he gave no trouble. Perry said he has chased the youth before for driving in a care less and reckless manner and ex ceeding the speed limit. Retiring Board Member Feted Office personnel and dis tinguished guests attended a party for Judge W. A. Brame, who re tired from th+e Board of Paroles Sept. 6. The party honoring the genial judge was given by office personnel. Miss Rachel Perry, the Judge’s secretary, presided over the three tiered cake. Other refreshments were lime ice punch, cheese sur prises and mints. Brame was presented a silver bowl in grateful appreciation for his services. About 40 persons attended the social. | Billy Martin, USN, | Is In Far East Billy I. Martin, boilerman sec j ond class, USN, son of Mr. and ! Mrs. M. N. Martin of Zebulon, is i serving aboard the destroyer USS i Black, operating in the Western Pacific as a unit of the Seventh Fleet. The Seventh Fleet is America’s first line of defense in the Far East. The ship departed her homeport of Long Beach, Calif., in June, and visited Hawaii en route to the Far East. While in the Orient, the Black is scheduled to visit ports in the Philippines, Japan, and Hong Kong. She is scheduled to return to the continental United States early in 1963. Sp.5 Otha M. Vines Completes Course Specialist Five Otha M. Vines, whose wife, Albertha, lives at 2338 Garrett Ave., Baltimore, Md., recently completed the six-week combat engineer non-commission ed officer course at the U. S. Army School, Europe, in Murnau, Ger many. Vines is regularly assigned as a combat construction specialist in Company C of the 317th Engineer Battalion in Hochst, Germany. Specialist Vines entered the Army in March 1960 and complet ed basic combat training at Fort i Jackson, S. C. He arrived over- j seas in August 1960. The 23-year-old soldier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Vines, Route | 4, Zebulon, is a 1957 graduate of James E.
