Plans Annual Meeting
Members of Wake Electric
Membership Corporation are
urged to mark their calendar for
March 22nd. That’s the date for
the annual meeting of the local
rural electric cooperative to be
fteld at the Wake Forest Elemen
tary School in Wake Forest. The
members are reminded that the
meeting will be on a Friday night
so all the Wake members who are
busy with farm work, or work in
industrial plants during the day,
may attend their meeting, accord
ing to N. C. Brummitt president of
the Board of Directors.
There’ll be prizes and items of
interest for the entire family from
7:30 to 9:15.
The principal speaker will be
William T. Crisp, General Counsel
for Tarheel Electric Membership
Association, from Raleigh, North
Carolina. He will talk briefly to
members about the accomplish
ments they have made through
their organization, some problems
they face and what they can do
to make their cooperative continue
to serve them even better than

elected by the members will be
responsible for long range plan
ning, policy, operation and man
agement of the system during the
year ahead.

program has generated a multi
billion dollar rural market for

has really been good for all Ameri
ca”, he said, “and we extend a
cordial welcome to our city friends
to attend our annual meeting.”
Diamond Club Is
Feted by Hostess
Mrs. Charles Flowers was host
ess to the Diamond Bridge Club
last Thursday evening at her home
on Wakefield Street.
Playing were Mrs. Howard
Beck, Mrs. George Tucker, Mrs.
Bernice Bunn, Mrs. Norman
Screws, Mrs. Pat Farmer, Mrs.
Wilson Grimes and Mrs. Frank
Kannon.
High and low scores were won
by Mrs. Beck and Mrs. Kannon,
respectively.
A patriotic motif was used in
tallies and refreshments.
After the end of three progres
sions, the hostess served cherry
tarts with whipped cream, ham
olive log, party crackers and cof
fee. During play fruit punch and
toasted pecans were served.

Government Senate. She will
represent the freshman class.
Freshmen may not be seated in
the student government legislative
body until the start of the second

The Future Farmers of America
chapter of Wakelon School ob
served National FFA Week, held
February 16.
National FFA week is held each
year during the week containing
George Washington’s birthday be
cause Washington was not only a
great general, political leader, and
president, he was also one of the
most outstanding farmers this
nation has ever had. He practiced
crop rotation, plant breeding, im
ported purebred livestock, and
supported sound farming pro
grams of his day.
The Wakelon chapter distrib
uted large colored posters, win
dow stickers, display tents and
small letter stickers in various
cafe’s and business establishments.
During the week gavels were
made to present to the other or
ganizations in the school. These
gavels will be presented to the
president of these organizations
during the assembly program Fri
day.
Donnie Perry, president of the
chapter, spoke to the Ruritan Club
on February 21. His topic was
“Why We Celebrate National FFA
Week” and what members of the
Wakelon chapter are doing.

Proposals must be sealed and

Improvements.” All proposals

cations. Bids must be accompan
ied by a certified check of five per
cent (5%) of the amount of the
bid, made payable to the Town
of Zebulon, North Carolina, said
check to be drawn on a bank or
trust company insured by the Fed
eral Deposit Insurance Corpora
tion, or a bidder’s bond in the
amount of five per cent (5%) of
the amount of the bid.
A performance bond will be re
quired for one hundred per cent
(100%) of the Contract price.
No bids may be withdrawn af
ter the scheduled time of receipt
of bids for a period of sixty (60)
days.
The Owner reserves the right to
i reject any and all bids to waive
any informalities in any bid or
bidder.
