- Mrs. ’ Cleo G. Perry Honored Mrs. Cleo C. Perry Approximately 100 persons turned out Saturday night, Feb ruary 23, when the Wakefield Zebulon Chapter 133, O.E.S., hon ored Mrs. Cleo G. Perry at a reception. Mrs. Perry is serving as Grand Esther of North Carolina, Order of the Eastern Star. The guests were greeted at the door by Mrs. Christine Hopkins and Jack O. Howard, District Deputy of the 11th District. The receiving line was composed of Mrs. Barbara P. Finch, Worthy Matron; Spencer Tantj, Worthy Patron; Mrs. Perry and her hus band; Mrs. Mary Carter Smith, Worthy Grand Matron; Robert F. Spence, Worthy Grand Patron; Mrs. Elizabeth West, Grand Con ductress; Mrs. Lucy R. Duncan, Grand Associate Conductress; Mrs. Stella Gillespie, Grand Ad; Mrs. Margaret Tillett, Grand Warder; and Ham Swift, Past Grand Patron. The refreshment table was dec orated in white, the color of the station of Esther. A white ar rangement of flowers centered the table in which the Crown and Sceptre were displayed at the top of the arrangement, being the em blem of the station. White burn ing tapers in silver holders flank ed this arrangement. Peanut butter sticks, coconut chips, cheese straws, date nut balls, apple cutups, lily sandwiches, and lemon punch were served to the guests. Mrs. John B. Richardson pre sided at the register. Goodbyes were said to Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bunn. The Chapter presented Mrs. Perry with a silver compote. Emit 4-H Club Holds Meeting The Emit Community 4-H Club held its regular meeting March 18, at the clubhouse. Judy Strickland, the President, presided. There were 14 members, 1 new member, and 2 leaders pres ent. The pledges were led by Connie Wilson and Linwood Wright. Car olyn Narron gave the Devotional. Refreshments were served by Emogene and Eugene Glover. The club voted to buy a desk to use in the clubhouse. Judy Strickland gave a talk on “How to Give a Demonstration.” She then gave a Health demon stration. She told the group how to make a jello dessert and en couraged them to have jello and other desserts like this for their desserts instead of cake and pies. Toni Sue Hinton gave a talk on Health. She told the group that health is important in all projects. Judy Strickland gave a report of what the club did during Na tional 4-H Club Week. They also visited other rela i tives while in Durham, j Mrs. Garland Poole is among the sick this week. Mr. Archie Bunn lost his pack house by fire Monday afternoon. He lost a tractor and all of his farming equipment in the fire. It was not known how the fire start ed. Mr. and Mrs. Talmage Ray and family of Durham visited Mr. Ray’s mother, Mrs. Ella Ray, on the weekend. Mrs. Floyd Lewis visited Mrs. Melba Pippin Saturday afternoon in Franklin Memorial Hospital in Louisburg. Mrs. Hardon Perry and Mrs. Flossie Perry visited Mrs. Billy Brantley and new baby daughter in Franklin Memorial Horpital Thursday afternoon. It is Mrs. Per ry’s first great-great-grandbaby. Miss Barbara Jean Perry, bride to-be, was entertained Saturday evening with a bridal shower at the church annex. Miss Perry re ceived lots of nice, useful gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Lewis vis ited Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Batche lor last Sunday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Ethel Batchelor in r Social Plains community. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Massey visited Mrs. Massey’s mother, Mrs. Bessie Poole, in Rex Hospital last Sunday. Wake Men Serve On Co-Op Board At Wake Electric Membership Corporation’s 23rd Annual Meet ing in Wake Forest on Friday night, March 22, some 700 mem bers reelected eight of the former directors of the Cooperative and one new director, who will serve for *he first time. C. E. Young, E. C. Hunt and J. P. Bailey, all of Wake County, will serve as di rectors along with N. C. Brummitt, John M. Ferrell, W. O. Fuller, H. L. O’Brien, Ben L. Husketh and H. P. Price. N. C. Brummitt, president of the Cooperative, reported that Wake Electric extended electric service to 150 new homes and busi nesses last year, making a total of 4551 connected services on 1091 miles of line in Granville, Wake, Durham, Vance, Franklin, Nash and Johnston Counties. He also forecast that the kilowatt hour consumption will double by 1971.
