Consolidation Vote
Scheduled June 29
Eastern Wake County voters will
vote Saturday, June 29, on whether
each of four school districts shall
be included in a proposed consoli
dation of high schools of the Wake
Ion, Wendell, Knightdale, and
Rolesville areas.
On motion of Ferd Davis, sec
onded by Mrs. John Q. Adams of
Willow Springs, the Wake County
Board of Education voted unani
mously Monday to hold the elec
tion at the four schools involved,
and named judges and registrars
for the election.
For Wakelon Mrs. Evelyn Creech
will be registrar, and the Rev. W.
K. Quick and the Rev. David Dan
iel will serve as election judges.
For Wendell, Mrs. Margaret Todd
was named registrar, and Marsh
Knott and William J. Ammons
were named judges. Knott has been
an opponent of certain aspects of
the proposed consolidation, and
Ammons has been strongly in favor
of the consolidation plan.
Knightdale’s registrar will be
Mrs. L. E. Flowers, and judges
will be Paul C. Newton, Jr., and
J. T. Knott, Jr. In Rolesville the
registrar will be Mrs. Coley Bar
ham; judges are G. Harold Wall
and L. F. Wea.hers.
A special registration will be
held beginning June 1, and only j
those qualified voters who are reg
istered will be permitted to vote
in the election. Registration may
not be accomplished after sunset,
Saturday, June 15. Saturday, June
22, will be challenge day.
Voters must vote in the district
in which they reside, regardless of
where their children attend school.
If a majority of the persons voting
in any of the four districts vote in
favor of excluding their district
from the consolidation, then that
district will not be included in the
consolidation. If less than three of
the four districts approve inclusion
of the respective districts in the
consolidation, then the Board of
Education will not be required to
proceed with construction of the
new school.
