Sept. Bride-Elect
A September bridal couple-elect,
Miss Carolyn Pippin and Sidney Rich
ardson, were honored Sunday, July
28, by Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Antone
and daughter, Kaye.
The couple was complimented with
a cookout at the Antone country resi
dence in Nash County. Service was
on the patio decorated with mixed
summer flowers.
A gift of china was given the couple
by the hosts.
The meal consisted of T-bone
steaks, tossed salad, com on the cob,
french fries, rolls and soft drinks.
Present for the social were the
honored couple, the bride-elect’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Pip
pin; the bridegroom-elect’s parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Garland Richardson;
Miss Kay Pippin and Charles Long.
Personals
On July 20, 1963, Mr. and Mrs.
Johnsey Arnold and Nancy at
tended Parents’ Day at the Gover
nor’s School of North Carolina, be
ing conducted on the campus of
Old Salem College, Winston-Sa
lem. Their oldest daughter Sue
is a student of the choral 'depart
ment at the school.
The activities began at 9:15 a.m.,
when the proud parents of the 400
students were escorted to the sev
eral departmental classes of the
school to look in on the students
at work. At 11:30 a.m., all par
ents assembled in Memorial Hall
for a welcome address by C. Doug
las Carter, program director, and
J. E. Miller, associate director of
education with the State of North
Carolina.
Immediately following the wel
come everyone was invited to a
picnic on the grounds under the
very beautiful trees of the campus.
They sat under the trees and en
joyed a nice visit with Mr. and
Mrs. R. H. Brantley, Jt., and Rob
in, their daughter. Robin is a stu
dent of the drama department of
the school.
At 1:45 pjn., they boarded buses
and were transported to the Com
munity Center of the City of Win
ston-Sal^m, a very lovely and air
conditioned theatre. Here they
witnessed a performance by the
drama department of the “Twelfth
Night: or What You Will” by Wil
liam Shakespeare. These students
really did an outstanding per
formance as was evidenced by the
seven or eight curtain calls and
standing ovation they received.
At 8:15 p.m., a Choral and
Symphony Concert was presented
to a standing room only audience.
This truly was a grand perfor
mance. The audience was spell
bound. The encore for more went
on and on. This group also re
ceived a standing ovation. Daugh
ter Sue is a member of the con
tralto section of the choral group
of which she has been chosen as
one of the soloist.
This was really a big day for
students and parents. The school
will end on August 2, 1963.
