NEWS of WENDELL Mrs. Bobby Johnson is seriously ill in Wake Memorial Hospital following an operation for kidney stones last Monday morning. Lee Nowell, David Baynes, Don Underhill, Chris Underhill and Johnny Narron are attending R. A. Camp at Fort Caswell. Accom panying them are Mrs. Wilbur Un derhill and Mrs. A. H. Baynes. Mrs. G. W. Roberts and Carol Roberts spent the weekend at Clarksville, Va., with Mrs. David Lee of Raleigh. Mrs. Blanche Dean is spending a week in Jacksonville, Fla., with Mr. and Mrs. Dolphin Griffin. Miss Mae Blackley of Hamlet was a guest of her niece, Mrs. Ros coe Nowell, for 10 days. Shelton Lewis remains in Wake Memorial Hospital after surgery. His mother, Mrs. W. P. Lewis, who was a patient there has returned home. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Brinson left Monday for their home in Miami, Fla., after attending the Perkins Phipps wedding. Mrs. Brinson is a sister of Mrs. Cecil Perkins. • Miss Isla Mae Phipps, Mrs. Lil lian Phipps and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Liles were hosts to the Perkins Phipps wedding party following the rehearsal Friday night at the Christian Church social hall. Bridge was played at two tables. Cokes and nuts were served dur ing the progressions and con gealed salad and iced tea, during the social hour. Gifts were presented to the honor guests. THOMAS L. GRIMES Funeral services for Thomas Leamon Grimes, 65, of Wendell, were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Wendell Christian Church by Elder T. Floyd Grimes and the Rev. John Whidden. Burial was in the Wendell cemetery. Miss Phipps received many lovely gifts. • BLACKLEY REUNION Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Nowell and son, George of Wendell, attended the fifth family reunion of Mrs. Nowell’s family Sunday July 21 which was held at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Roscoe C. Johnson in Petersburg, Va. Mr. Johnson is pastor of Washington St. Metho dist Church. Those attending the reunion, also attended the morning worship service which Mr. Johnson conducted and Roy Blackley, Mrs. Nowell’s brother, sang the special music. Members of this family are de scendants of the late Shemuel Claiborne and Lucy Kearney Blackley who were born, reared and buried near Franklinton. About 40 members of the family attended. • MAYOR SPELL DIES Oscar Glenn Spell, 69, mayor of Farmville, died Wednesday after noon at Duke Hospital in Durham following several weeks’ of ill ness. He had been Farmville’s mayor for six years and had previously served as mayor of Stantonsburg and Walstonburg. He was the Norfolk and Southern Railway agent at Farmville. He was a past president of the Farmville Rotary Club. A veteran of World War 1, he had served as commander of Farmville A merican Legion Post No. 151. He was a past master of Farmville Masonic Lodge No. 517 and Stan tonsburg Masonic Lodge No. 92, AF&AM and was a member of the official board of the Farmville Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Hazel Everett Spell; two daughters, Mrs. Addison M. Sprague of Dur ham and Mrs. Larry R. Jenks of Raleigh; two sons, O. G., Jr., of Wendell and Homer C. Spell of Farmville; one sister, Mrs. Mag gie Bullard of Salemburg; one brother, Libby Spell of Autryville, and seven grandchildren. • THANK YOU NOTE .
