Carter attended a birthday dinner for Mrs. Pearl Wood celebrating her 50th birth day at the home of Mrs. Herbert Shirley in Raleigh Sunday. Also Mrs. Louise Starnes. Mrs. Frank Starnes and children Harrol and Sharon went. Mr. Ted Cashwell and Mrs. Naomi Carter of Raleigh visited a while at the J. B. Carters Sunday afternoon. Visitors at Mr. S. T. Whitakers Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Her man Faucett and Mr. Delma Whitakers of Raleigh and Mrs. James Liles of Wendell. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Agan and Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Agan, Jr., and children of Kinston visited the John Starnes Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Browning and children, Bobby, Carrol and Billie of Old, N. J. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Browning of Raleigh and Mrs. H. H. Woolard and Mrs. T. G. Woolard of Raleigh. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wilson and children of Zebulon all had dinner with the J. C. Carters Saturday Night. A picnic lunch was held at the Cabin at Mr. J. B. Carters Sunday honoring Mr. and' Mrs. Jimmie Faircloth and children of Dallas, Texas. There was a large crowd and a bountiful lunch. The Pur year and Moody families sponsored the lunch. Mrs. Faircloth is the daughter of the C. D. Puryears of Youngsville, Rt. 1. Visitors at Mrs. Alice Hoods Sunday afternoon were Mrs. Vera Rhodes of Wakefield, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Mason of Wendell and Mrs. Hettie Vause of near Central Church. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Hodge and baby also called and Mr. and Mrs. T. Y. Puryear, Jr. of Wendell. Mrs. Bertha Hood and son, Charles who is spending some time with her on leave from the Army visited Mrs. Alice Hood and Mr. and Mrs. T. Y. Puryear a while . last Wednesday afternoon. Puryears, Sr. Mr. C. D. Puryear of Youngs ville, Rt. 1, spent Monday night with the T. Y. Puryears, Sr. Mr. Gratis Haswell is in the State Hospital for a nerve treat ment. Mrs. Haswell is spending a while with Mr. and Mrs. Alpheus Haswell in Wendell. Sgt. Claud Zimmerman and family of Fort Knox, Kentucky spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Gay. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Gay visited his sister, Mrs. Joseph Tucker, who is very ill in Watts Hospital Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Puryear of Rolesville had lunch with their parents Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Williford of Raleigh spent a while at the T. Y. Puryears Thursday. Informal Dinner Party Honored Bridal Couple Miss Brenda Bunn and Leslie Strickland and members of their wedding party, parents, and other relatives and guests were enter | tained at an informal party given at Parker’s Restaurant in Wilson on August 7. Hosts for the social held at 5:30 p.m. were Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Pearce, grandparents of the bride and Mr. and Mrs. McLean Privette, aunt and uncle of the bride. G. Griswold, Jr., Franklin Eddins, Floyd Farrington, Billy Bissette, and Charlie Myers. Bachelor's Dinner Parly Given Thurs. Mr. and Mrs. B. £. Strickland were hosts to a bachelor’s party Thursday night, August 8, honor ing their son, Leslie, and the groomsmen who served at his wedding. The dinner party was held on the lawn of the Strickland home. The table was covered with a white cloth and centered with a floral bouquet of pink. The dinner consisted of chicken barbecue, country ham biscuits, potato salad, cole slaw, hors d’ oeuvres, fresh coconut and pecan pies and iced tea. Guests were the Rev. David Dan. iel, the Rev. Horace Hamm, Jimmy Weaver, Roswald Flippen, Charlie Myers, Billy Bissette, W. G. Gris wold, Vaughan Wade, Franklin Eddins and Floyd Farrington, i Leslie presented his groomsmen gifts at the close of the party. | Complimented Miss Evelyn Joseph, who was married to Thomas A. Smith or August 24, was complimented with a green back shower August 15. The social was held at St Eugene’s Catholic Rectory in Wen dell August 15. Mrs. Lou Ballard and Mrs. Kannon were hostesses A green and white color scheme was used in decorations and re freshments. The honoree was presented a white carnation corsage by the hostesses. Gifts of money were decorative ly placed under a decorated um brella, which the honoree opened before the refreshment hour. Refreshments, presided over b> the hosteses, were lime ice punch individual bridal cakes, mints and nuts. Approximately 35 guests wert present for the evening social. Residents' Sister Dies in Norfolk Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Robert Davis, 54, 01 Norfolk Saturday. Mrs. Davis, th« former Lydia Wilson, was th< sister of Mrs. Willard Winbourn* and David Wilson of Zebulon. Mrs. Davis died suddenly a' her home on Wednesday, Augus 6, after being stricken with a heari attack. Besides Mrs. Winboume and Mr Wilson she is survived by her hus band, a daughter, a grandson three other brothers, Clarenc* Wilson of Zebulon, Everett Wilsor of Middlesex and the Rev. James W.
