Mrs. Bessie O’Neal of Brooklyn wishes to express her profound ap preciation to everyone who helped to make her visit in Zebulon a pleasant and happy one. Mrs. Lucy Christmas was called to Baltimore to minister to her daughter, Margaret, who was dis charged from Johns Hopkins Hos pital after suffering a heart at tack. Margaret’s husband, Mr. Amos, is in the hospital now, not expected to live. Mrs. Christmas asks the prayers of the church that she may have strength to carry on. Rev. C. E. Askew visited Riley Hill Baptist Church last Sunday. Dr. G. S. Stokes, pastor, had Rev. Askew deliver the morning ser mon. In a meeting of Wakefield Bap tist Church Missionary Circle Mrs. Lucille Parks was elected delegate to represent the Circle to the Woman’s Home and Foreign Mis sionary Convention of North Car olina. Several teachers were in Zeb ulon last week to secure living ac commodations since they will teach at Shepard School during 1963-64. Beavers Chapel Christian Church held its regular preaching service last Sunday with an ap preciable audience. Rev. Young preached a wonderful sermon. Revival services will be held at Wakefield Baptist Church Septem ber 8 through the 13. Minister for the week will be the Rev. W. H. Dudley, pastor of Mount Zion Bap tist Church, Rocky Mount. The public is cordially invited to at tend the services. Mrs. Beatrice Harris of Knight dale spent the weekend with the C. E. Askews. Mrs. Harris is Mrs. Askew’s cousin. Dr. and Mrs. W. R. Strassner and Mrs. Beatrice Harris were dinner guests of the Harold Taylors last Sunday. The Heggins family celebrated their family reunion Sunday, Au gust 18, at the home of the Will Heggins of Pilot. Between 75 and 100 people attended the reunion. Rev. J. T. Parks and daughter, Balrie, his mother, Mrs. Lucille Parks, Mrs. Mattie Jones and mother, Mrs. Hicks, and Lizzie B. Askew attended the Wake Baptist Association and the Woman’s Home and Foreign Missionary Convention of North Carolina last week. Mrs. Mizer Lucas of East Or ange, N. J., and her sister, Mrs. Hattie Fennell, Newark, N. J., are visiting their father, J. R. Hor ton of Rt. 3, Zebulon. Mrs. Genevia Bethea of Balti more, Md., Miss Virginia Heggins of New York City and Miss Leota Gray are visiting the R. P. Rich ardsons. Mrs. Bethea and Miss Heggins are sisters of Mrs. Rich ardson. Mrs. Mable Lucas of Newark, N. J., is spending her vacation with her aunt, Mrs. Lona Richard son. Mrs. Bessie Bostic of Jersey City is visiting Mrs. Pheadis Dunn. Emit 4-H Club Elects Officers Officers for the Emit 4-H Club for 1963-64 were elected at the club’s meeting held on August 19. Serving the club as president for the coming year will be Rowland Strickland, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Strickland of Route 1, Mid dlesex. Other officers are: Toni Sue Hinton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Hinton, vice president; Kay dene Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Va'lton Wilson, treasurer; Judy Strickland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Ralph Strickland, re porter; Zelma Batten, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Batten, his torian; and recreation leaders, Nancy Bass, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Bass, and Robert Wild er, son of Mr. and Mrs. Connie Wilder. Miss Strickland, out-going presi dent, was presented a past presi dent’s pin by the incoming presi dent, Rowland Strickland. Miss Hinton gave a talk on “Keeping Records,” and “Giving Parties for Children.” Refreshments were served to 16 members, two leaders, one new member and two visitors. Hosts were Rowland and Nancy Strick land. Refreshments consisted of homemade vanilla ice cream and cookies. l Carolyn Pippin Honored at Dinner Miss Carolyn Pippin, September 1 bride-elect of Sidney Richard son, was complimented last week at a formal dinner party given by Mrs. A. S. Hinton. The honoree was presented a corsage of white carnations and a gift of crystal by the hostess. Guests were presented satin covered napkin rings adorned with nosegays by the hostess. The auxiliary tables from which guests were served were covered with hand embroidered white linen cloths and centered with a yellow candle decorated with a matching nosegay. The dining table was covered with a white lace cloth and cen tered with a low arrangement of chrysanthemums and white roses. The guests were served frozen watermelon balls with frosted grapes, baked ham, string bean casserole, potatoes with cheese sauce, green peas, pineapple glazed apple salad, hot rolls, homemade peach ice cream, nuts and bridal cake. Guests were Miss Pippin, her mother, Mrs. Woodrow Pippin; the bridegroom-elect’s mother, Mrs. Garland Richardson; Mrs. Lawrence Liles, Mrs. Rodney McNabb, Miss Hirriet Page, Miss Kay Pippin, Miss Judith Creech, Miss Dyanne Strickland and Mrs. Connie Mack Bunn. Following the dinner a contest was held whereby each guest wrote their favorite recipe for the bride, which was bound into a folder. The honoree was pre sented a set of measuring cups and spoons.
