Foshee, became the parents of a daughter, named Elizabeth Anne. They also have a son, Scott. Mrs. Foshee has been spending several weeks With her son and his family. * Cindy Davis, three-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barris Davis, underwent corrective eye surgery last Friday morning at Rex Hospital. She is now at home recuperating splendidly. * Miss Rebekah Talbert was the overnight guest of Mrs. Charles Flowers Sunday. While here she visited other friends. She reports to work today (Thursday) in Winston-Salem where she teaches, * Mrs. Ben Thomas joined her sisters last week for a reunion at Myrtle Beach. Mrs. Thomas’ sis ters are Mrs. R. A. Parker of Mur freesboro, Mrs. Jerome Butler ol Claxton, Ga., and Mrs. Ivy Vann of Norfolk. Children of the sis ters were also present, as were Mrs. Thomas’, Michele and Neil, * The niece of Mrs. George Tucker, Miss Brenda Dance of Richmond, was the week-long guest of Mrs. Tucker and Dr. Tucker last week. * Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Barrett of Kinston spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Massey. Mrs. Massey and Mr. Barrett are sister and brother. * Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Bunn, Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong Cannady and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Bras well and daughters and Mrs. Lorenzo Bunn attended the annual Bunn family reunion Sunday, August 18, at Pullen Park. Ap proximately 100 descendants were present for the picnic dinner. * Elmo Bunn of Greensboro spen Sunday with his parents, Mr. anc Mrs. F. E. Bunn. * Mrs. J. M. Coleman and sons, Jimmy and Lee, of Richmond are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Barrow. * J. K. Barrow and Miss Margaret Barrow have been ill but Mrs. Barrow reported that they are both improving. * Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Hinton spent the weekend in Roanoke Rapids with Mrs. McRae Faison. • Mrs. Wallace Chamblee, Mrs, L. M. Massey and Mrs. Ralph Tal ton spent last week with Mrs. I, D. Gill at the Gill cottage on Pamlico. Mrs. MillaTd Chamblee spent a few days last week with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Liles of Sanford. Mrs. Liles brought her mother home Sunday and was the overnight guest, returning to her home Mon day. Mrs. Bruce Hodges and daugh ters were Monday through Wed nesday guests of her mother, Mts. John Kemp. It was Ann Churchill Hodges’ first visit to Grandmother Kemp’s. * Mrs. J. E. Culbreth and children, Rex, Pat and John, of Charlotte visited their parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Rex Duckett, here this week. * Mrs. George Marie of Raleigh spent Saturday with her mother, Mrs. M. T. Debnam. • Mts. M. T. Debnam recently vacationed at Yaupon Beach. With her were her son and his family, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Debnam of Rockingham. * Mrs. Ashley Murphy and sons spent the weekend in Boonville with the Rev. and Mrs. Irvin Murphy and children. • Brian Horton spent the past two weeks with his aunt, Mrs. Doris H. Privette. The 13-year-old lad is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Horton of Cincinnati, Ohio. He left Tuesday for his home. * Mrs. Doris H. Privette and her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lilly, recently va cationed with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Horton and family of Cincinnati. After a visit with the Hortons, Mrs. Privette and Mr. and Mrs. Lilly, accompanied by Mrs. Pri vette’s nephew, Brian Horton, went to Dunellon, Fla., to visit Miss Gayle Privette. * Carolyn Perry returned Wed nesday afternoon from Rex Hos pital. She underwent an appen dectomy last Sunday. * Starke Jones, nephew of Mrs. John Kemp, and his wife and daughter were luncheon guests of Mrs. Kemp Tuesday. Mr. Jones and his family were enroute to Ft. Worth, Texas, where he will 1 be a member of the sophomore class at Southwestern Baptist Seminary. I * Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Holmes spent the weekend in Columbia, S. C., with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Carroll. * Mr. and Mrs. Norris Collins and children and Elwood Parker and daughter of Bailey were the sup per guests of Mrs. Ethel Parker and Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Andrews Sunday. Miss Gayle Dunn left August 28 for Greensboro where she will teach in the city school system. * Mrs. Pattie King Minga, former ly of Route 3, Zebulon, is resting comfortably and is much improved in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Viola Richards of Route 2, Wen dell, near Lake Mirl and Bethany Church. * Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Medlin and children recently vacationed in New York City. • Mrs. Lucille Pippin was compli mented on Saturday night, August 17, with a dinner party given at the home of Miss Sarah Eaton. Hostesses were Miss Eaton and Mrs. Pearl Pearce. Guests were Mrs. Donald Stallings, Mrs. Way Ion Finch and Mrs. Julian Horton. • Dale Beck has taken a position as assistant coach and teacher at Celeste-Henkle Consolidated High School at Statesville. * Miss Bettie Peele of Clayton was a recent guest of her aunt, Mrs. Joe Vinson, and Mr. Vinson and children. Bride Elect's Parents Give Cookout Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Pippin were hosts to a cook-out in com pliment to their daughter and her bridal party. The occasion was held Sunday, August 18, at Zebu Ion Park. Miss Carolyn Pippin will wed Sidney Richardson on Sunday, September 1, at Zebulon Baptist Church. Attending the afternoon social were the honorees, Miss Pippin and Mr. Richardson, parents of the ■bridegroom-elect, Mr. and Mrs. Garland Richardson; Mr. and Mrs. Rodney McNabb, Mr. and Mrs. Connie Mack Bunn, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Liles and Wes, Miss Dyanne Strickland, Miss Judith Creech, Miss Kay Pippin, Tommy Phillips, Charles Driver, Charles Long and Bill Allman. The menu consisted of barbecued chicken, potato salad, slaw, potato chips, tomato salad, and cola drinks. John D. Whidden, officiating. Mrs. M. C. Todd, organist, Lewis Oliver Liles, pianist and Mrs. Jack White Liles, soloist, presented nuptial music. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Louis Lambeth Liles of Wen dell and the late Herschell Lee Phipps. Parents of the bridegroom are Mr. and Mrs. John Cecil Per kins, also of Wendell. Given in marriage by her step father, |he bride wore a gown of white satin and alencon lace with a chapel train. Her veil was at tached to a tiara of lace and seed pearls. She carried a bouquet of stephanotis centered with an or chid. Mrs. Curtis Lee Phipps, sister in-law of the bride, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. John Curtis Todd and Mrs. Oden Latham, both of Wilson, Mrs. Graham Tyson, Jr., of Raleigh, and Miss Frances Johnson of Greensboro. The bridegroom’s father was best man. Serving as ushers were James Cecil Perkins, brother of the bridegroom, Curtis Lee Phipps, brother of the bride, Don Bru baker and Randy Cobb. A reception given by the bride’s parents was held in the church social hall following the ceremony. The bride attended Meredith College for three years and will be a senior at Atlantic Christian college in the fall. Mr. Perkins, who will also be a senior at Atlantic Christian College, is a member of Delta Sigma Phi, a social fraternity. Following a wedding trip to western North Carolina, the couple will reside at 1209 Tilghman Road in Wilson. Miss Evelyn Joseph, Thomas Smith United in Marriage Miss Evelyn Joseph of Wendell and Thomas A. Smith of Zebulon were united in marriage Satur day morning, August 24, with a nuptial Mass held at St. Eugene’s Catholic Church in Wendell. The rites were performed before Fa ther John M. Breunig, pastor. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nanny Joseph of Wen dell. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Smith of Brewster, N. Y. Prior to the ceremony music was provided by Mrs. Bill Beck of Wendell, organist. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white bal lerina gown of silk organza over taffeta with a scoop neckline, short shirred sleeves and a fitted bodice. The skirt had side panels in the front which controlled the bell sides and gathered back finished with a bow. Hand-cut alencon lace motifs reembroidered with baby seed pearls adorned the front of the bodice and panels. Her headpiece was a silk organza cabbage rose outlined with baby seed pearls from which fell a shoulder-length veil of silk il lusion. She carried a white prayer book. Mrs. Allen D. Grooms of New port News, Va., was the bride’s matron of honor. Regina Smith, daughter of the bridegroom, was flower girl. She wore a baby blue dress of organza and carried a basket of white rose petals. Chief Petty Officer Allen D. Grooms of Newport News, Va., served as best man. Ushers were Lou Ballard of Zebulon and Louis Knuckley of Wendell. Following the ceremony a buf fet luncheon was given in honor of the couple. The couple will reside in Zebu Ion after a wedding trip. The bridegroom is employed with W. B. Bunn Wholesale Grocery Co. here. BIRTH Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Ed wards of Kinston announce the birth of a daughter, Amy Susan, August 17 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Edwards is the former Sue Richards of Zebulon. Bridge Club Meetings Bfcl-M Bridge Chib Mrs. Bobby Ross Eddins was hostess to the Bid-M Bridge Club at her home in Wakefield last week. Early fall flowers were used throughout the home for decoration. The dining table was covered with an imported Indian hand made cloth with predominantly yellow color. It was centered with an arrangement of white and yellow gladioli and chrysanthe mums, flanked with yellow tapers. Members playing were Mrs. Crafton Hudson, Mrs. Jimmy Wheeler, Mrs. James Debnam, Mrs. Alvin Beck, Mrs. Bobby Sherron, Mrs. Jack Liles and Mrs. M. L. Hagwood. For their excellent playing prizes were taken home by Mrs. Beck, high, and Mrs. Liles, low. After the three progressions the hostess served homemade vanilla ice cream and vanilla wafer cake. Candies, potato sticks and punch were served during play. Saturday Night Club Member' of the Saturday Night Couples Bridge Club were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Beck last week. Play was in the draw ing room of Hotel Zebulon, which is now managed by Mr. and Mrs. Beck. Arrangements of roses, mari golds and dahlias were used throughout the playing area for decoration. Playing were Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong Cannady, Dr. and Mrs. George Tucker and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Finch. High score prize was a warded to Mr. and Mrs. Finch, with low going to Mr. and Mrs. Cannady. Tables were laid following the three pr egressions and the hosts served coffee pie, chicken salad sandwiches, pimento cheese on barbecued crackers, pickle, potato chips and coffee. Cokes and candy were passed during play. Diamond Bridge Club Mrs. Charles Flowers was host ess to the Diamond Bridge Club last Thursday at her home on Wakefield Street. Roses, petunias, zinnias and marigold arrange ments were used for decoration. Members playing were Mrs. Howard Beck, Mrs. Douglas Finch, Mrs. Bernice Bunn, Mrs. Pat Farmer, Mrs. Norman Screws, Mrs. Frank Kannon and Mrs. George Tucker. Tallied score pads revealed that Mrs. Farmer was winner of high score prize, with low going to Mrs. Finch. After the close of three progres sions the hostess laid the tables and served pineapp ’-mint par fait pie with whipped cream top ping, toasted deviled ham canapes, tiny pickled beets stuffed with cream chese, potato chips, toasted pecans and coffee. I Mrs. J. H. Sanders Qub Last Friday night Mrs. J. H. Sanders was hostess to the mem bers and guests of her bridge club at her home of Wilson Avenue. Mixed summer flower arrange ments were used for decoration. Members playing were Mrs. Joe Richardson, Mrs. George Vaughn, Mrs. Curtis Todd, and Mrs. J. H. Alford. Guests completing the tables were Mrs. Graham Dean, Mrs. Norman Dean, Mrs. Jimmie Batten, Mrs. Joe High and Miss Katharine Kannon. Mrs. Todd and Mrs. Alford re ceived club high and low score prizes, respectively. Mrs. Batten and Mrs. Norman Dean were the recipients of guest high and low score prizes. After the close of the three pro gressions the hostess laid the tables and served home made peach ice cream. Nuts and pink lemonade were served during the progressions.
