LENOIR, N. C. LENOIR NEWS-TOPIC, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18, 1919 Page Seven INVEST IN DOLLARS , (Gastonia Gazette) "A dollar is about the cheapest thing there is today," advertises a savings bank. "Why not buy up a few every week, pat them in a bank and wait for a rise in value!" fays the New Berian. . Doesn't that set one to thinking? We have heard much about the "cheapness" ' of dollars, and have usually thought of that quality only in connection with spending them. It is true that they will not buy much today. Because of this -very depre ciation people become more reckless. "A dollar has so little value," they say. "What good is it? Might just as well get rid of it Anyway, there are plenty more where it came from." But the supply is not going to last forever. The flow of dollars will not always be as plentiful as it has been lately all financial history teaches that Money fluctuates in value like other things; it has its period of plenty and cheapness and then its pe riod of comparative scarcity and dearness. A dollar may never again buy quite so much of the commodi ties of life as it did before the war, but it will certainly buy more some time than it does now. That time may not be far distant, either. This is the time, therefore, to make a good cash investment. Take a flier in dollars. Hang on to some of the money flowing through your hands you can probably grab more now than you ever could .before and stiflr it in th cavincrs ihanlc heforfi it gets away from you. This is a per fectly sound business idea, which any financial expert will endorse. When you take those dollars out of the bank, after a while, they will buy a good deal more of the things you want than they will now. Mean while, the bank will pay you for the privilege of taking care of your in vestment Congressional investigations do someflmes have this good effect: A food pirate can't profiteer very much, in the few minutes he is on the wit ness stand denying the usual charges. Kansas City Star. Mr. Fred White Say., "Don't Idle Became You Only See One Rat." "I did; pretty soon I found my cel lar full. They ate my potatoes. Af te rtrying RAT-SNAP I got 5 dead rats. TO AN OLD HOUSE By James Monroe Downum Thou relic of another day, When years were young, And life was full and sweet; When childhood joys resounded Through thy now deserted halls, And father to thee as home returned After the toils of day; When mother's voice was heard, And all the. ways of home Moved sweetly in their turn. These now have ceased to be Thou lonely and alone Thy boards have fallen down, Thy roof a shattered wreck, And thou art left to fall In sad decay. How humanlike art thou; When life from thee has gone Thou crumbiest back to earth, Memento of the fast-flown years. NOTICE OF RE-SALE North Carolina. Caldwell County. Back to the past again, Where hopes rose-colored glisten, Sweet as clover after rain, An dthe echo of lost voices s Thrill my heart with memories' pain. Dear faces smile along the way, Of those I used to know, And the glory of tomorrow gleams On the loves of long ago ; Sweet-scented blossoms gild the path And the June-tide breezes blow. 'Back in the land of Yesterday I feel my mother's kiss; My fevered soul grows calm again, At her touch all balm and bliss; For those who go the backward road Know naught of loneliness. A form walks close beside me there, A story of love is told ; I listen and lean to its melody; Tis the dream that grows not old. Ah, the. vanished days! ah, the golden hopes! That are withered and stark and cold. But the call of Yesterday's magic road - Lures ever my weary feet; I can leave the Babel of dull Today To go on this journey sweet; I can bear the toil, the cross, the road, For a dream makes life complete. my. "I had doctors galore, also spent four months in a sanitarium, but had practically no relief. Then I started taking Rheuma. Now I can go without crutches or other aid, which I could not do for the last nine months. I highly recommend it, and would gladly answer any questions asked on receipt of stamp for post age." Thomas H. Eddy, Schuyler vUle, N. Y. Rheuma is absolutely harmless and thoroughly reliable because it is one discovery that has forced rheumatism to yield and disappear.
