Estkuslastle Mss'tlng of The Democratic Exscotive Committee. The Democratic- Executivo Com mittee, of Nash County, met in J. C Harper's office Feb. 23. Every town ship in tbe county except Rocky Mount and Ferrolls were represent- ed.. The committee culled the Coun ty Convention for the purpose 61 selecting delegates to the Slato, Congressional and Senatorial "con ventious to be held on Monday the 2nd day of April, 1900. . The Town ship primaries in tbe various town' ships of the county were called to be held on Saturday March 24, 1900, at 2 o'clock p. m. for tho purpose of electing township committees, and delegates to attend the county con vention in Nashville April 2, 1900, The1 Committee reccommended that the Primaries instruct ' every white man in the townships, who Is in favor of good government and white supremacy and expects to af filiate with the Democratic party this year consider himself a delegate to attend tho county convention on, the 2nd day of April, bis vote shall) receive its prorata count. The Township Primuries for the different townships jn the county will be held at the places named be low and are entitled to tho number delegates written opposite the name of township. Township. The carriage horses of Wallace Batchelor ran away .Monday even ing near the depot and smashed , up things considerably. : In their mad flight through the woods one of the horses collided with a tree and was knocked senseless for a short while. He returned home Monday accompanied by his cousin, Miss Effie Wood. Mr. Claude Weaver Dead. ' It is with deep regret we learn of the death of Mr. C. V, Weaver, who died at Whitsett Institute Tuesday morning after a brief Illness of pueu monia. News From Red Oak. Mr. and Mrs. J. DorseyBeal paid friends near Nashville a visit last Saturday. . . Miss Lois Jenkins, of Nashville, paid our neighborhood a pleasant visit this week. ' Measles are taking the rounds among us, but the majority of ' our people are so fortunate as to have had them. ' Indications point to a decided in crease in the cotton acreage in this section. Let our farmers do the right thing and diversify their crops. Our boys contemplate playing a match game of ball with the team of Dortches on Easter. Make thorough preparation for the contest, boys, or you may suffer defeat. . , Sunday was, to say the least of it, a cold and windy day, but we find it here as in all other places, that it never gets too cold, hot, dry or wet for the boys to pay their re spects to the fair sex. The spring term of school began Feb. 19th. Prof. T. H.. Sledge, formerly principal of Oak Level Academy, is now in charge of the school at this place. He is assisted by Mrs. Sledge, who has an excel lent music class.
