W. Cooper paid Nashville a business visit yesterday. The new rural route from this place to Aventon is proving of jrreat convenience to the people living thereon. Mr. Fletcher York, of Pinners Point has been here during the holi days visiting his mother, and other relations and friends. Mr. Northscott and wife, of Rocky Mount, have been spending a few days in this community visiting the family of Mr. W. A. Cooper. Mr. Northscott returned to Rocky Mount yesterday. It is said that the severe wind last "londay evening blew Mr. Spencer Avent out of his buggy. At any ate, Mr. Avent and his sister who .ere enroute to the "box party" at I Ir. A. W. Miss Ada Batchelor, of Nashville, and who has been visiting friends and relations in this community, re turned hoihe Sunday, and "Bud" is so sad. . Xmas passed off very quietly in our community and no accidents are reported. This is indeed fortunate, when we consider the many appall ing accidents which have occurred in almost every section of the State. . On Christmas eve, Mr an4 Mrs. R. P. Winstead celebrated their "tin wedding" in the presence of a host of friends. The ceremony W"U re formed by 'Squire I, F. II 'Jit and after the marriage the company were invited to partake of a sumptu ous confectionery supper, after which Mr. and Mrs. Winstead were presented with various and useful articles of tinware. The occasion was much enjoyed by all present and all were made to feel "at home" by the genuine hospitality of Mr. and Mrs. Winstead. Pleasant Grove Notes Miss Sidney Stone, of Dukes, is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Elizabeth Barnes. Several of the young people at tended the Union Meeting at Phila delphia. Edgar Baines and G. L. Stone went a-larking to the Joyner School section Xmas. Miss Alvarada Hinton spent the Xmas holidays visiting her grand father Mr. John R. Dozier, of Oak Level. Miss James Williamston, accom panied by a Mr. Fennell, of Rock Ridge, is visiting Mr. J. L. Hinton and other relations. The "special tax" election passed off favorably, only one ballot being cast against the tax. Three failing to vote, made a total of four votes counting against, me lax. The Christmas tree occasion w. quite a success. Never was a tr here more beautifully decorated The children from Miss Cooper's school gave recitations and the choir rendered some good singing. Died at his home on December 27th Mr. E. R. Collins. He was one of the faithful old veterans who fol lowed Lee ana Jackson, tie was a kind, hospitable neighbor, and wortny citizen. His remains were interred in the family cemetery at his home. The bereavement falls heavily upon his maiden sister, They both had never married but had lived together all their lives at the old homestead. OaK Rig News Notes. Miss Pollie Walls is spending a few days with relations and friends in the Lee's Chappel section. Mr. Bertie Cone has recently made some improvements on his residence by treating the same to a new roof. Mr. J. L. Bryant recently paid Zebulon a business visit and where he is having erected a neat cottage residence. Mr. Alsey Taylor is making rapid headway on his new store and at an early date will open up with a splendid stock of general merchan dise. ' Messrs. W. O. Bryant and J. L. Brantley have bought the machinery and milling outfit from Mr. C. B. Strickland and will continue the op eration of same. , While sawing wood several days ago Mr. E. J.
