Lenta, formerly of Concord, and a son of Mr. and Mrs. - R. P. T.Hart sell was interview ed this morning on (he new lab taw regarding the sale of beer and liquor by clubs and the following facta were gathered from him: . -- The law doea not prohibit man from ordering all tbe liquor be wants or keeping it where he pleases:: Tbe object of tbe Isw is to keep tbe club front having anything whatever to do with it. This is for the purpose of keeping the clubs from deriving any benefit from tbe sale of whiskey or beer. "In my opinion thie law will knock out all the clubs that nave been or ganised , for the purpose of evading me proniDHion law and ; making a profit in handling liquor and beer. Tbe law prohibits the club from aiding or abetting any member in securing or in serving any beer or whisker." - City Attorney Hartsell and Chief Police Boger have decided to give the club until April 1 to- drink up the beer they now have on band. After that time they will have to keep each man's beer and" whiskey separate in Order to comply with tbe new law. ; : Girl ft Prisoner Firs Hours. Wilmington, March 15. News has been received here of the capture and detention of a well-known young wo man, 21 years Old, by a, negro, who! kept her a prisoner five boors, the wo man finally escaping while her captor prepared his plans with the cruelty of a savage.. . -v T--i:S- Tbe daughter of J. W. Judge, farmer residing near Hose Hill, was the object of tbe brute's attack. Last Monday evening as she was hurrying through the woods to the home of a neighbor wstb whom she bad an en gagement she was suddenly seized by tbe negro, who dragged her into the depths of the woods, where she was made a captive. The negro left ber long enough to secure material to make a shelter again the weather. . Salisbury Msrchanta Aasodation Had the Measure Made a Law Salisbury Post. . , Throngh the special efforts of tbe Sisbory Merchants' Association a bill entitled "An aet to prevent fraad on Merchants," was passed by tbe General Assembly of North Carolina, recently adjourned.. The bill to charter the Raleigh, Charlotte and Southern Railway Com pany, was passed by the Legislature and ratified on March 7th. : Full mention of this new road will be made in our next issue, and it- is sufficient here- to say -that the road seeks to start from Charlotte, go by way of Locust, Albemarle, Asheboro, Pittsboro and to Raleigh. It would lessen the distance from -Charlotte to Raleigh nearly 60 miles, and open a section which has but little or no rail way facilities, and which is largely undeveloped. .- .
