ML A reaction of two dollar a bale in the price of cotton took place on the New Orleans market Monday. This vat the first sodden upward move ment in futures since the long decline started, a decline that Saturday night amounted to almost four and three quarters cents a pound or nearly twenty-flve dollars a bale. General rainy and cloudy weather over the cotton region, a storm warning for the Texas coast and the forecast of froet for Oklahoma and the Panhandle of Texas were the cause of the rise. The farmers of this section have been holding on to their cotton like grim death ever since the price declined so far. No farmer is selling his staple except under the force of dire neces sity. The price is far too low, and at 11 or 12 cents would give a fair profit to the farmer and also leave a good margin of profit for the mill men. The meeting held at the First Bap tist church last night is encouraging evidence of the fact that the people of Concord are awake to the import ance of law enforcement, and the best of results are expected from it. It was clearly the sense of the meet ing that something must be done, and it was agreed to appoint a committee of five to confer with the city officials and to heartily co-operate with them in the suppression of illegal whisky selling and gambling. The chairman will name this committee soon, and he will no doubt name wise and discreet men, but men who will be thoroughly in earnest. While the speeches made last night were conservative they evinced a determined spirit, and the law-breakers are warned that the laws of the sovereign people of North Car olina and the city of Concord must be obeyed. And so poor George Hall is par doned At last. He should have receiv ed his freedom long ago. PARAGRAPHS. Judging from the pictures of Trip oli in tbe daily press, the bombard ment will not cause much danger to property. Deposits in Postal banks promptly reached a figure which indicates a safe and sane current in the country 's finances apart from Wall street fluc tuations.
