Chief Talbirt in making the announcement, stated that everything in police circles has been quiet for several days and people have been on their good behavior to such an extent that the officers have had little little to do. Officials of the water and light de partment had some trouble with electric current in tltis city Tuesday. The cur rent several times during the day became weak and it was reported that the trou ble was with the power station of the Southern Power Company, as the city was unable to get as milch current ns us ual. The work of preparing tax receipts for the city is underway now. The receipts will probably be completed within anoth er week and then it will probably re quire another week or ten days to get them placed on the books. City Tax Collector Fields will begin the collection of the taxes as soon as the receipts are completed. Tile new school house for colored jic-> pit-, of Kannapolis, is well underway and the building wi!’. he completed within sev eral days. The colored school children of Kannapolis have been attending schools conducted in Churches of the town but they will soon have their own homo which will contain five class rooms, office ami auditorium. The North Carolina Synod of the Southern Presbyterian Church is in ses sion now in Burlington and Graham, the twin cities to entertain the synod joint ly. At the first sessions of the synod held Tuesday Dr. J. H. Henderlite, of Gastonia, was elected moderator by a de cisive majority. The annual meeting of the synod is always an event of great in terest to members of the Presbyterian church.
