An intei-esting program has j , been arranged for the event. Two cars were badly wrecked near Silver Hill, the negro neighborhood. Sat- j urday night, police officers state. Tic i wreck was reported, but when police of- i fleers arrived the oocuimnts of the ears i were gone. The officers so far have not learned who owned the ears or who were operating them when the accident occurred. Thirteen defendants were docketed for trial in recorder's court this morning., Two were charged with assault with a deadly weapon, one was charged with violating a city ordinance, three more \ were charged with carrying a concealed j weapon, four were charged with intoxica- I tion and three with gambling . Court ! was in session for several hours. The Concord Y basketball team lost its game with the Charlotte Y team Satur | day night 62 to 17. The locals played good ball at times, but the Chnrlotte team had better team work and by this method ran lip the big score. Dr. Toulmin found that automobile accidents, influenza and pneumonia were the chief causes of the increased number, of deaths. Decreases were noted in typhoid fever, tuberculosis, and cancer and there were fewer suicides reported. Dr. Toulmin disagreed with the recent British view that the proper gauge of | physical condition is a man's ability 1 to work without fatigue and his feeling ! i "fitness.” claiming the only true index j is a thorough examination.
