Riden heur, Jr., at her home on White Street. In addition to the e’.ub members Mrs. Ridenhour had as her guests her mother. | Mrs. J. A. Sims, and her sister-in-law, Mrs. H. G. Gibson* During the business session Mrs. M. H. Caldwell and Mrs. ( R. E. Ridenhour, Sr., read interesting and instructive -pa pers. j Valentine place cards were used when refreshments were served and decora- J tieps throughout the heme carried out the spirit of the Valentine season. , Mrs. Widenhouse Operated On. Mrs. J. A. Widenhouse. of No. 9 town ship, was operated on Tuesday at the Concord Hospital. Her condition is re ported as being very favorable. This is the second operation Mrs. Widenhouse has had recently, being opernted on dur ing December for appendicitis. Y. W. A. of First Baptist Church to Meet. The Y. W. A. of the First Baptist Church will meet tonight at 7:30 o’clock with Miss Virginia Isenhour on East Depot Street. * Friday Afternoon Book Club Meets. The Friday Afternoon Book Club will meet tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 at the home of -Mrs. H. 8. Williams on Corbin Street. Members are asked to take note of the. meeting. ' Cook-Hill A wedding cf much interest in Alest Ccneord occurred yesterday afternoon .when Wade Cook and Miss Pearl Hill were, married. Both are well known in that section of tiie c9y. They will make their home at the Brown Mill in the future. Miss Hill is the daughter of Pink Hill and Mr. Cook is the son of A. B. Cook. Meetings of Daughters of Confederacy. The Daughters of the Confederacy wtll hold their regular monthly meeting to morrow afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at the home of Mrs. Chalmers L. White, on Georgia Avenue. All members are asked to take note of the meeting as it , is a very important one and several important .matters are to be taken up at this time. \frs. J. W. Cannon, Jr., Entertains. Mrs. J. \V. Cannon, Jr., entertained at a delightful party Wednesday after noon honoring Mrs. .Toe F. Cannon s guest. Miss Inlsey Howell, of Easton, Pa., who has been spending a week in the city. Bridge was played at three tables. After the game at which Miss Mar ret Virginn Ervin won the top score prise, Mrs. Cannon presented Miss How ell with a lovely guest prise. Gibson, who went to Charlotte Tuesday to be with Mr. Gib son during his pperation for appendicitis, is remaining in Charlotte for the pres ent.- She is staying at the Sanatorium. Mr. Gibson’s mother, Mrs. Betty P. Gib son, is also in Charlotte visiting Mrs. Lot Humphreys. Miss Morris to Entertain. Mias Louise Morris will entertain at bridge this afternoon honoring Miss Ins ley Howell, of Easton, Pa., who is visit ing Mrs. Joe F. Cannon. Miss Howell will leave Friday for her home. Mr. and Mrs. John Bulla Give Dance. Mr. and Mrs. John Bulla entertained their many friends Friday night at a square dance. Dancing was enjoyed from 8 till 12 o’clock. Punch Was served by the hostess. Wake Forest Begins to Think About Baseball. Wake Forest, Feb. 11.—In a half doz en places on the Wake Forest College campus this afternoon student baseball players were loosening up theis winter tightened muscles. The open weather of this week called them forth. Next week, if the weather permits, Coach John Caddell will issue a general call for freshmen practice. “From the way the fellows have been asking me about when practice would start, there wiii be at least a hundred out,” said Coach Caddell. ' Last year Wake Forest fresh men finished at the head of the list in the state. Work was yesterday begun on the old athletic field, getting it ready for prac tice. This field witl be used by the first year team. Coach Garrity is not expected to is sue a general call for varsity candidates before the end of the basket ball season on February 28th. Washington, D. C., Feb. 10. —Repudia- tion by Congress of recommendations by the Interstate Commerce Commission for retention of the Pullman surcharge was urged in the Senate today by Senator Smith, Democrat, South Carolina, chair man of /he Interstate Commerce Commit tee. !
