Debate—Query: Resolved, That the Ku Klux Klan as an Organization Is More Detrimental Than Beneficial to the Country. Affirmative—M. B. Dry and B. W. Cruse. Negative*—S. R. McEach ern and W. C. Thomas. Burlesque—S. M. Stirewalt and C. K. Walters. ' Music h.v the Glee Club. ■* The debates of both of the literary societies, the Gerhardt and Ludwig, are among the most important events in the student life at Mt. Pleasant. They are annual affairs and are attended yearly not only by large numbers of Mt. Pleas ant people but also by people from Con cord, Albemarle and other towns and cities. i The program this year is said So be of an unusually high order and should rank among the best ever given at Mt. Pleasant. ' The subject for the debnte, the Ku Klux Klan, is a timely one and one that should be entertaining .to per- 1 sons Outside of academic circles. Entertaining Bridge Club. Mrs. J. E. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cannon and chil dren, William, Mariam, Charles and Mary Ruth, and Mrs. J. W. Cannon and Miss Clara Harris will leave the latter part of the week for a cruise of Pana ma. They will be gone for several wrecks. Banquet: at Country Club Tonight. The men’s Bible class of the First, Presbyterian Church will give a banquet tonight at the Country Club. Dr. A. A. McGeaehy, of the Second Presbyterian Church, of Charlotte, will' give an ad dress. Choral Chib Meeting Postponed. •The meeting of the Choral Club, which was to have been held tonight, has been postponed. At the Theatres. “Ponjola,” featuring Jnmes Kirkwood, Anna Q. Durham, Feb. 18.—State College and Duke University grapplers staged, an ex citing wrestling meet last night, the Methodists winning 24 to 3. Duke wrestlers netted four falls of the seven , matches, won two on time decision, and lost one on time decision. A feature of the meet was the matches between Yearby, of Duke, and Hicks, of State, which Hicks won by a one-second time advantage. This match went for two extra three- minute periods, Hicks hold ing the offensive ten seconds of this time and Yearby holding the offensive for nine seconds. None of the matches were won or lost easily. January Building in North Carolina. January building contracts in North Carolina amounted to 8.128,800, accord ing to F. W. Dodge Corporation. This was only 5 per cent, under December and it was a 36 percent, increase over January of last year. It was also well over last year’s monthly average, making an exeeleiA start on the 1025 building program. Last month’s record included: $3,829,- 800, or 47 per cent, of all construction, for residential buildings; $2,065,000, or 25 per cent, for public works and utili ties ; $745,500, or 0 per cent, for commer cial buildings; and $549,500, or 7 per cent, for educational buildings. Charlotte Convocation Adjourns. Charlotte, Feb. 19. —After a short ses sion today for the administration of the Holy Communion, the Charlotte convoca tion of the Episcopal Church attended by approximately 30 rectors and laymen from eighteen counties, adjourned. The next annual meeting will be held at Spray.
