Varner, one of the State's best ] known citizens, died in a Lexington hos pital Monday night of pneumonia. It is in tended to open the theatre on Monday 1 next week and Mr. Varner had planned to be here for the opening. | A committee in charfe of the Lutheran Brotherhood Pienie will be in Concord £ today to look over the Fair Grounds as 5 a suitable place for the staging of the annual picnic which is to take place this year May 7. The Fair Ground was ! tendered to the Brotherhood at the Dis trict Meeting of the Brootherhood which was held in Concord several monthr ago. The home of Sirs. Harry Moore, on Houston streets, was damaged by fire shortly before 6 o'clock Monday night. The rear part of the house was badly burned and the structure was save only by the prompt work of the firemen. It is alleged that the house was fired by Mr. Sloore, who is in jail pending further in vestigation. Miss Elizabeth R. Seovil and Morris Scovil, of Frederiekton, New Brunswick, Canada, are the guests of Rev. Chas. B. Scovil and Mrs. Seovil at All Saints Rec -5 tory. Miss Seovil was at one time one of the editors of The Ladies Home Journal and of the American Journal of Nursing. ? She is the author of many books on Nursing and books for children.
