The condition of ,T. W. Denny's sister, who was operated on for appendicitis, continues to be very serious. Mr. Denny ■has gone to Winston-Salem to be with her. L. T. Hartsell, one of the most promi nent members of the Concord bar, has been elected vice president of the North Carolina Bar Association. His e'eetion was made at the sessions of the assoein ion being held this week in Asheville. Defendants tried in police court Fri day afternoon paid fines and costs total ing $35.95. One persons was fined for driving by the "stop" sign at the sipiare. The heaviest fine was sls. paid by a defendant charged with gambling. RcV. and Mrs. W. C. Lyc-ly and fam ::ty have moved into the house on West Corbin street which was formerly occu pied by Mrs. L. I’. Davis. This home will be used temporarily as the Reform ed Church parsonage. Oglesby arrive<l in Con cord Friday night to spend several days, coming from Asheville where he attended sessions of the North Carolina Bar As sociation. Judge Oglesby stopped in Mooresville Friday to deliver an address at a celebration staged under the au*- piees of the American Legion. The hot weather continues with in creased fury. Friday was probably a little hotter than Thursday and during the early part of Friday night there was little relief from the torrid temperatures. Rain is badly nivded again, not only as a means of breaking the hot spell but to freshen growing crops. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Robinson and daughter, Emma, of Buckingham. Ya., have returned to their home after spend ing several weeks her«* as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Brown on Georgia Avenue. Miss M. G. Simpson, who came with them here, will remain for several more days. Negro Found Dead in Woods Near Raleigh. Raleigh. July 3.—Walter Snipes, negro carpenter, believed to have car ried big sums of money, was found .dead yesterday aftrnoon in Oberliu woods, several miles from Raleigh. Death at the hands of somebody “to the jurors unknown” was the verdict of Coroner Waring 1 * jury. The dead man wa* found after his body had been sev eral days in the wood*. His pockets had been turned inside out and there were other evidences of robbry. He worked for a local contractor. The head of the old man was bndly battered by some kind of a blunt in strument* We got down late today. The alarm clock rang but we decided maybe it was the wrong number.
