Progressive Fanner. We need ihore country dubs. When we say this, however, we are not referring to elubs where city folks play golf and where a real countryman : s practically never seen. What we mean is that we need to organise more clubs of real country folks to deal with real coun try problems. And since city folks are finding that about the only way tq get men to attend meetings regularly is to have something to eat in connection with the meetings (witness the Rotary, Kiwanis. Lions. Civitans, and other successful city "lunch eon clubs"), it : s well enough for farm ers by their experience. We are never going to be satisfied un til we have all over the South farmers' clubs such as we found at work in Bar tow County, Georgia, on our visit to that State last year. The following outstand ing facts will be remembered: 1. There are only twelve members of this farmers' elub. and meetings are held once a mouth at the farm homes of the members in relation. Thus ench member is called on to entertain the club oqce a year, so that the hospitality feature is not burdensome on any one indlivjdual. The meetings are held on the second Fri day of ench mouth but Saturday might be a better day. 2. Each member practically makes a holiday of these meeting days and revels in the resultant good fellowship, good eating, new knowledge of farming and farm problems, and new plans .for pro moting • farm business. Most ’members come early, inspect the farm and farming operations of their host, and talk farm ing with him until dinner-time. 3. But. these dubs are for business and prog reed as well ah pleasur-v After dinner the monthly program is taken tip. Ttie liftst may himself lead the discussion of some rural problem or may have in vited a non-member guest to present some subject. Then come discussions of -vhat the members have to buy or sell an-i bow they may co-operate in buying and selling to advantage. Let us repeat now the report of tasjpes* »t one meeting about the time at nor visit: "Hugh Gilxcath, a dub member who had been ashed to write various manu facturers. reputed at what prices mem bers could obtain acid jdiosphate, nitrate of soda. iKitasb, etc. Through his ef forts alone, dub members and oth?rs buy 700 to I*oo tons of fertiliser each year at a saving of fl to $lO a ton. One thou sand bushels.; of purebred cotton seed have been purchased at a saving of SI,OOO. Poultry is attracting the atten tion of club tpetiibers and they and their friends have bought about 30.000 baby chicks, saving- 12 per cent, by ordering co-operatively.” There is not enough fePcwship, com radeship. active friendship in our country districts. Wg need more clubs like this Bartow Club, not only to promote better farm busiuem but in order to help make Dixie "the land of Rural Comradeship" it ought to be,, And so once again we ask : “Wouldn't you like to be a member of such a local, farmers’ organization as this one? Couldn't it do much good for you ami your community? Wouldn't! your life be happier for the influence of such an orgaoiaatiou ? And if you would like to have such an organisation, surely you have eleven friends or acquaint ances in your county who would help you start one. Why not adopt ihe fine uiotto we saw the other day : It Needs to be done; It Should be done; It Can be done; It Must be done; It Shall be ikiae—And I Will Help Do It.” Commissioher Adelaide Cox, for forty four years a member of the Salvation Army and now the chief of women's Work of that organisation in the United King dom, was made a "Companion of the British Empire,” in the distribution of W. O. W. NOTICE. • meeting of Elm Camp No. 16 W. O. W. Tuesday evening at 8.00 o'dock in the Moose Lodge Room. Every member is ungad to be present. 8. A. WEDDINGTON, C. a H. CL LITAKEB.
