Winston-Salem bonraal "Expect well-known doctors to take stand for WT B. Cole.” This headline introduces a newspaper article in connection with the coming trial of the wealthy Rockingham man fact urer who >shot and killed William Ormond a few weeks ago. The .names of several physicians well Known throughout the State are men tioned us probable witnesses in the case. The array of smart 'lawyers to be connected with one or the other side of the rase has been known for some time. Now comes the. line-up of doctors. There was a time when In terest. centered wholly upon the per sonnel of the counsel engaged in a murder trial. Now the lawyer 1 have to share with the doctors. A good deal now depends upun which side can get the smartest doctors to tes tify. Physicians are scientists. The man in the street is a bit puzzled to understand how mental facts can be presented in such contradictory col ors as expert medical witnrs-'es often use at murder trials. In the intere-t of the integrity of fbe medical pro fession, physicians could do well to guard even against the innuendo that fiancial considerations blend in thn slightest degree their opinion of mental phenomena regarding which n reasonable amount of agreement might be expected.
