Robert Walthall was operated on at the Concord Hospital Thursday evening for the removal of his ap pendix. He is recovering rapidly’ from the effects of the operation. The week-end program at the Y. M. C. A. includes a hike for the girls and a barbecue for the boys. About 75 girls are expected to make the hike. All offices in .the court house here were c losed Thursday during the fun eral services of Major W. A. Foil. Practically all of the county officers attended the services. Merchants of the city are especially anxious for clear weather tomorrow as this is a season when business is unusually good with them on Satur day. Air. and Mrs. A. 11. Kalbfleiseh were confirmed as members of All | i Saints Episcopal Church Thursday j 1 night at a service conducted by Bish- j op E. A. Peniek. of Charlotte. Sahdy Dobson, well known negro of Concord, died at his home Thursday morning. Funeral services were held this afternoon. Dobson was an aged negro and spent practically all his life in Concord. Colored teachers of the county will meet with I’rof. J. B. Robertson at the court house tomorrow afternoon ■ at 2 o'clock. One is the j Furman-Wake Forest game in Ashe-1 vilie and tile other is the Duke-Wof ford game in Spartanburg. Rain, amounting to .25 of an inch fell Thursday night but stopped this morning and the weather remained partly clear all this morning. The frequent showers recently have raised the hopes of the people of the city that the Southern Power Company • . may be able to furnish power to meet all the demands at an early date. j Elaborate preparations are being , made today for the Father and Son banquet which is to be held tonight at the Y. M. C. A. The gymnasium is being decorated and tables placed fer the. annual event. No tickets will be sold at the door, it is declared by Mr. Blanks, and persons wishing to attend will have to procure their tickets this afternoon. The work of paving the short atrip of roadway at the underpass on the Concord-Kannapolis highway is be ing rushed to completion. It is ex pected that the concrete will be laid by tomorrow and only several days will be required for setting and dry ing. When this is completed, a | strip which has been very rough for I over two years will be eliminated. Persons who ordered tickets for the Carolinu-Virginia football game should not be alarmed if the tickets are late reaching Concord.
