Dick Gray, unamious choice for All-
State back during the past football
season, has been elected captain of
the 1927 I)avi<b<on College football
team. Grey was the outstanding
Wildcat player last season and bis
election to bead the 1927 team was
expected.
Os news interest to a large number
of friends will be the statement that
Thomas White, a Concord student at
the University, has passed his exami
nation and has been admitted to the
bar. Mr. White will be associated
with the firm of McLendon and Hen
drick, of Durham.
Plowing is being done in all parts
of the county now, as a result of the
favorable weather of the past several
days. The ground has become suffic
] iently dry for plowing following the
i rains and snows of the first part of
the month and farmers generally are
busy now.
Dr. J.' M. Clark, of Statesville, will
address the Sunday School at Bayless
, Memorial Church tomorrow morning
on “Why Become a Christian When
I'm a Child?” At 11 a. m. Dr. Clark
will speak on the “Growing Church,”
and at 7 :30 p. m. hie subject will be:
"A Call to Discipleship.”

President Gives Reasonable Assurance

Coolidjfe today gave reasonable as
surance that a tax slash will be made
at the next session of Congress.
America's phenomenal prosperity
will undoubtedly warrant such a tax
reduction, visitors at the White House
were told.

House Ways and Means Committee
will make a summer survey of general
business conditions and of the possible
Government receipts for the fiscal
) year which will begin on July Ist.

been completed and an Administration
® Tax-Slash Bill is expected to be
