Mr. Matt Jordan, a prominent tobacconist of Danville, Va., was in town yesterday. Mr. Jordan is a native of Person county, and still has many fiends here who are always glad to see him. The Br-shy Fork Base Ball Club crossed bats with thj Rosboro club at. the park last Wednesday. On ac count of the circus excitement the attendance was small. Score 18 to 6 in favor of Roxboro. Judge Green, who is presiding at this term of our court, arrived in town Saturday evening. He was suffering from asthma, but on Mon day was some better aud opened court at the usual hour. The Judge seems to be a veery kind hearted and ple..saut gentlemau, and the lawyers who practice in his courts, say he is making a good record as a Judge. Mr. VV. P. Bynnm, who is the new Solicitor, was on hand to attend to the States interests. He is a good lawyer and i3 making a good prose cuting attorney. This is his first court here since his election, and he is making a. good impression as an officer. The State docket was small, the only case of interest was that of the State vs. Sheriff J. A. Carver, for lettiug the prisoners ' break jail. The jury decided that it was not on account of any carelessness of Sheriff Carver. In prosecuting: this case the Solicitor in his speech said il l., . The many friends, not july m Pwann hut throuffhont the entire State, will learn with much sadness the death of Mr. J. T. Strayhorn, which occurred at his residence on Rpams Avenue, yesterday evening. Though Mr. Strayhorn had been in fphle health for more than a year, and it was generally known that he had conspmption, his friends hoped for the best and thought possibly he mi-ht recover. He was a geutleman nf nlpasant manners and very popu lar with all who knew him. He was a lawyer of ability and naturally a hrio-ht mind. It is a very sad death, just at that age when he could have been so nseful to his country. He leaves a wife and one sister, auu a host of f riends to mourn his death. The bereaved ones, and especially his wife, have the sympathy of this entire community. Little Bessie May Thomas was called from earth to Heaven, on Monday, March 18tk, 1895, after a brief illness of about thirty-eight hours. The doctors said her disease was congestion of the brain with pneumonia. All was done to Keep her with us, but God saw best to take her home with Him. She was a sweet, affectionate little darling, and God wanted another little angel. I know her papa and mama will miss her little footsteps and her svveet prattle: but fond parents, look up to Him who doeth all things. He will give you comfort in this dark hour of trouble. It is very hard to give up dear Little Bess, but we feel that she has gone home to live with Jesus.
