The erowth and success- of the Roxboro -Tobacco Market have been phenomenal from the beginning. The two Warehouses (Pioneer and Hyco) which have been used from the beginning, being inad equate to handle all. the tobacco that came to the Roxboro Market as the quantity increased, the large and spacious Farmers Warehouse was erected, and later on the Pioneer and ,he Hyco were considerably enlarged and improved to meet the increasing demand for sales-room. Large prize houses have been and are still being erected, in which to handle and re dry tobacco. Our Market is now in better shape than ever before to handle tobacco. The Warehouses aro large enough to keep us selling: all dav each day if we can get the tobacco. A Nashville judge, . just elected, has dumbfouu led the bar of that city by announcing that "the day of sus pending judgment, which is nothing but a pardon, is over in this court. If a man is found guilty he must sufferHhe penalty. It is intended in our country that the executive shall have the pardoning power." This is right and just. Recently a report of the proceedings of a North Carolina court read to this effect, in a half a dozen cases : "Peter Doe, convicted of carrying concealed weapons; judg ment suspended on payment of costs." This was an offence so se rious and so common that, unless for go d reasons that did not appear with the decision, no such leniency should nave been shown, lo put the case plainly, it was making the law foolish by changing the penaltv to one that was not at all prohibitive. It was an exercise of the pardoning power by, not the executive, but the judiciary. J. A. .LONG & CO. ' Our stock is now complete in. Every Department. 'Richard Croker and Tammany," is the article in the Tammany series for November. The article is by E. J. The early portrait of Lincoln, which forms the frontis piece of the magazine for November, shows that Lincoln was a very handsome and dignified young man. It is not posi tively known at what age this picture was taken. It looks certainly fifteen years yoanger than any hitherto pub lished portrait of Lincoln. The daguerreotype is owned by the Hon. Robert T. Lincoln. The leaves from the Vailima Let- ... ...... tew, which are published in tne November number, are capitally illustrated with several photographs taken in the South Seas and now first published. One shows Mr. Stevensoa on horseback, another re clining on his couch playing the flute, and there are groups in which Mr. Stevenson appears. The letters are introduced, by an article by his closest friend, Mr. Sidney Colvm. No finer piece of autobiography than these ever been written. .There is a That Tired Feeling Means danger.
