Tips Qlnxxxitx Wednesday, Oct. 12,1898. County Exhibits Pair. For the State The Fair is closo at hand, and we beg leave to say to say to the people of Person county, that if the County is to be represented at the State Fair as it should be, they must be up an doing. The time is short, but much can be done by energetic work. We hope the people will give this their earnest consideration, and send in their contributions to help swell the exhibits from Person county. Do not let any one depend on his neigh bor to do what he can do himself. Many have already expressed their willingness to aid in this work, but we want the help of all, for if each one will do a little, Person county can make a display that will do her credit. The ladies ar earnestly re quested not to forget that their aid is needed also, for on them depends many of the attractive features of the exhibits. All who have articles to send and do not wish to attend to it themselves can leave them at the store of J. A. Long, on or before, October 19th. We request thftt an articles be plainly marked, with the name of article, the name of exhibi tor and post office address. We will attenu to the packing of the articles and shipping them to Raleigh, plac ing them on exhibition and giying them Gncb prpona1 attention, curing t Fair, as they may require. The success of the exhibit sent from Person County to the Fair de pends upon individual effort, and we trust that the people will give us their hearty support so that the pres ident of the Fair will not have occas sion to be ashamed of his County. When Mark Twain was first intro duced to General Grant the latter shook hands in a perfunctory manner and immediately relapsed into his customary attitude of reticence. There was an awkwaru pause; it grew longer and longer as the humorist tried to think of something bright to say. Finally, as if in sheer despera tion, Twain looked up with an assum ed air of great timidity, and said: "Mr. Presipent, I I feel a little bit embarassed. Do you?"The President could not help smiling, and Mark took advantage of the chance the in cident presented to give place to Others. Ten years later, when statesman and humorist met again, General Grant, with a twinkle in his eye, said, before Twain had the chance to utter a word: "Mr. Clemens, I don't feel at all embarrassed. Do vou?" Octo- . m ber Ladies' Home Journal. How to Prevent Croup. We have two children who are subject to attacks of croup.
