It is important that I should know- as early as ' possible who expects to attend in order that I may be -able to inform our friends at Winston the probable number that will attend in order that ample . arrangements' may be made for our entertainment, as we have not had a State Reunion for several years and 'as our Winston friends will make extensive pre paration for our entertainment and comfort. I trust that every veteran of our camp wilb endeaver to go with us on this occasion. Winston Salem is one of our most wide awake and progressive cities and nothing will be. left, undone by her citizens that would ( add to pur pleasure and make this occasion of our meeting with them a great success. So I u'rg upon every member of our camp to let me know of his intention of attending as early as possible. J. A. Long, ConVdr. Camp Jones, No. 1206. Washington Herald, Ind. Dem. While I may differ from some of! the views set forth in the : platform, and while there' are tilings I might have done differently, nevertheless I am going to support the ticket and do:all I can to elect it. Political platforms can never exactly cor respond to individual opinions and wq cann6t all get platforms jusf to suit us. As I said, the platform adopted is a fair approximation of what the Democratic party believes to be right and just. Martin W. Littleton, of New York. Mr. Bryan undoubtedly owes his nomination to the support of the great mass of the Democratic voters, - These voters prefer radicalism to conservatism and Bryan to any other possible Dem ocratic leader, Recognizing this fact The The Tribune has never considered Mr. Bryan s a pitibly weak candidate? He is obviously stronger as a vote-getter than J udge Parker was in 1 904 or than any other Democratic nominee would be this year who owed his selection to conservative influences Republtcans will do well not to consider the campaign of 1 908 a walk-over' New . We : have given Mr. Bryan for a running mate a man of like opinions with himself,' one of the greatest men ever produced by Indiana, an as sociate and friend -of Hendricks, Voorhees and McDonald in their A A lifetime, and. by his nomination we will win Indiana. Besides all thir, we have given Bryan and Kern a a platform on whiah they can stand and which the sentiment of the country will approve. Norman E. Mack, National Committeeman from New York. . Under a deep sense of the re s ponsibility therein involved. The Record has determined ,to support tie candidates of the Democratic party. There is a drift in both parties away from safe constitution al moorings. But 'of immediate and vital issues that divide the, political opinion of the nations the Democratic - party is most firmly rooted in the faith of the fathers For thirty years The Record, day in and day out, has striven for tariff reform. It will fight on under the lead of Bryan, .who beleives the protective principle not only unjust but (unconstitutional. It will fight on for unfettered trade and equal rights under whatever leadership the war is waged, in the belief that the good of the masses is deeply involved in the result.' Philadelphia Record, Ind, Dem-. Which Bolted Bryan in 1896 and 1900. : " No intelligent survey of the nation's defenses against Bryanism can blink-the truth that that they have been greatly weakened dur ing the past four years. It is npt possible to-day to rally- the conservative forces of the country in opposition to Bryan so splendid ly as in 1 896. Everybody , knows the reason why. You cannot re vile a man whom you have imitated. A, party that has appropriated Bryan's ideas cannot, with good effect, attack ' his person. At the very beginning of the Republican campaign, it is the part whether of frankness or sound generalship to admit that power of resistance to Bryan has been much broken by -four years of yielding to him. President Roosevelt's avowed and deliberate purpose has been to head off Bryan r oy "stealing - his is sues. iThe argument, or threat which he has constantly used has been; "If you do hot go half way with me, you will have to go the whole way with Bryan." Well, we see now what comes of the plan of lighting; a dangerous enemy by surrendering to him- The Bryan who has been extinguished is ex alted higher than ever. New YorkvEvening Post, Ind. Rep.
